1 out of 5 eggsDefective out of the box

Pros: The tablet would not power on. I called Asus tech support and they could figure it out so I will have to send it back.

Cons: See above. I would expect the seller to at least make sure it will turn on before shipping it.

Other Thoughts: This is a Christmas gift but I will most likely not have it for Christmas. Very disappointing. I do not plan to use New or Asus again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet

Pros: Tablet works extremely well. It feels solid and durable, though I've avoiding testing that. It works great, connects to my WiFi and phones bluetooth reliably, and does almost everything I expected a tablet to do.

Cons: Tethering pretty much just flat out doesn't work. I went through all of the steps with an ASUS rep trying to get it to work, up to and including performing a factory reset on it twice. Looking at other resources online, apparently it's actually Google at fault because with the most recent versions of Android OS, the tablet doesn't recognize having an internet connection unless it's WiFi. I wish the rep would have known this instead of making me perform multiple unnecessary resets.

Other Thoughts: I haven't really had any of the problems listed in the other reviews here. I have slight issues connecting to weak signals, but I can connect to my In-Laws router that they have in their basement, even when I'm on the top floor. I haven't tried testing out the GPS, as my phone works perfectly fine for that, and as mentioned before, the tablet will not read tethering.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Choice in Tablets

Pros: Display is nice, battery life with keyboard is very good.

Cons: Don't buy it if you want to use GPS, it plain doesn't work. Asus has class action suit which they just lost over this. The metal case won't let the GPS function except in the strongest of signals. ASUS solution is to give you a external antenna which can't be used while charging the tablet or while connected to the keyboard.
WIFI reception is poor also due to same case.even after ASUS upgrades the internal antenna. Had to put a WIFI repeater in my living room just to get enough signal strength.

Other Thoughts: A lot of these units got returned because of above problems and now are being resold as "refurbished" even though the problems are still there. Bought my son a Galaxy Tab II and it's a much better tablet which can be bought at about this price.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat EXCEPT no Bluetooth+WIFI streaming

Pros: Speed is very good for a tablet. I can still overwhelm it but its still quite impressive. Screen display looks good though not a "retina" display. Has been reliable.

Cons: WIFI reception isn't consistent or reliable. In close proximity to the router I still don't get full strength reception. That never made sense to me. FATAL FLAW, not to bury the lead, but if you plan to use this to stream video (e.g. Netflix) or music (e.g. Rhapsody, Pandora) and use a nice Bluetooth speaker, think again. Apparently this is a known limitation of the piece that I only discovered after many frustrating attempts to fix the problem. I think there's only one antenna or the case causes signal loss - whatever it may be, you won't be able to use both BT and WIFI at the same time. You'd think they would have foreseen that, huh? Well, I use the table mostly for work and communication when I can't use a proper PC and it serves that function adequately. ASUS makes many great products, I've built systems with their motherboards for longer than I'd like to say and my Nexus 7 (which I believe they make) is excellent. But I think this Bluetooth flaw is really a thoughtless omission - tablets are used mostly for entertainment, Netflix and Pandora are very common tablet apps and the inclusion of BT in the first place could only be for speakers or headphones. Just seems a no brainer that they should work together or be advertised as NOT working together. Oh well.

Other Thoughts: The keyboard for the Transformer series is pretty good and gives extra battery life as well as a USB port. All in all a good bit of kit. However, when you've combines these together along with a leather case for protection you've essentially got a notebook PC's weight and size (and cost if you got it when it was released) but not a real Windows or Mac experience: the processor, which is fast for a tablet, is not suited for multitasking or Office level applications. It's best as a personal tablet - if you want a notebook PC experience, invest in one of ASUS's excellent laptop computers. The keyboard is just for a niche market.

4 out of 5 eggsTF201 - ePad

Pros: Great buy on the refurbished tablet

Cons: Next time I would test everything or purchase the warranty. The tablet worked great. After about a month I decided to use the HDMI port only to realized that it was defective. Since the 30 days had lapsed I had to sent it to Asus to be fixed. The repair bill from Asus would have been more than what I paid for the refurbished tablet.. REALLY...

Other Thoughts: Upon anything you get that is Refurbished.. TEST TEST TEST could save you heartache.

1 out of 5 eggsIrritated

Pros: Updating review of "Wife loves it"

Still loves it... even though she's VERY irritated.

Cons: It would loss the internet and not log back on even though she was right next to it. All our otehr Wi/Fi devices worked when farther away including her old Asus Tranformer Prime which has a major crack in the screen.

She called Asus... long story short they the Support staff tried to sell her a $299.99 service plan to fix the issue, fortunately I came home just in time...

Told me that the Kernal was messed up, and my internet had been comprimised... blah, blah... A simple Restore to Factory... type in wifes gmail account info... it's been working fine ever since.

Again, I'm not sure if it's Asus's tablet support or what... but they keep trying to rip us off... I don't like it AT all! Hopefully she calls back and talks to a higher up to tell them the situation.

Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware) I guess that was created specifically for companies like Asus.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: From what I can tell the screen size is pretty nice, and it is ultra thin.

Cons: Battery dead upon arrival, would not receive charge.

Other Thoughts: This is a known issue and despite several other reviews stating to NOT buy this product I did anyways. I am a pretty frequent and high paying customer.

"Refurbished" products have been tested to ensure compliance with original manufacturer specifications, and MAY include a limited manufacturer warranty - see the item's product page for details

I would think that this would mean it was tested before being sent as is stated in their quote for refurbished items. However after waiting a week for it to arrive and being really excited to mess around with it, it arrived not operational with the exact same issues reported by several other users. I am really upset from both sides, Newegg for not double checking the operational status, and Asus ( I love this company, I use all of their motherboards for my custom PC builds ) for the faulty design. I'm guessing it's because it was the first gen of this product and is ultra slim, maybe cutting corners or using a cheaper battery wasn't the right way to do things.

I'm refunding this so I won't be able to tell you if the replacement would have been operational, I didn't want to wait over two weeks to receive another with the same issues. I'll be looking onwards towards different tablets, and will surely not order anything else refurbished from Asus.
