1 out of 5 eggsUSB port is terrible

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: Nice screen, fast, etc

Cons: The usb port is garbage. After about 1 year of use, you can barely charge it. Now it doesn't appear to charge at all. Of course, this is just a few months after the warranty ran out. This appears to be a very common problem, so it appears to be a design defect, IMO.

Other Thoughts: Find a different brand. ASUS skimped on the mechanical part most likely to fail.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sunderland,

I agree with other users that the USB port needs to be handled with care since it comes in a small form-factor. If the USB port was broken, you can send it in for service. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150535679 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsMicro USB Port Loose

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: Good sound quality, speedy CPU, (mostly) user friendly interface. Caught it during a sale Newegg had going on and got it well reduced in price.

Cons: Its touch sense is a little quirky, sometimes not recognizing what I want to accomplish.

The USB Micro Port became loose only after a few months of normal use, which periodically prevents the tablet from recharging or talking to my PC when plugged in.

Other Thoughts: Contacted ASUS support about the micro port. They had me send it to one of their service locations (the nearest is about 750 miles away). I had to pay for shipping it, which didn't sit well with me.

When I got it back only 3 business days later, the micro port was just as loose as when I sent it to them, but zero description was supplied on what was done to fix it. As far as I could tell, the service location had done nothing with it, except to plug it in and see if it took a charge, then threw everything into a box and shipped it back to me.

I called ASUS support right away and was told the micro port and power/connection cord had been replaced. I told the service rep that the port was still loose, and was told essentially, "Live with it."
I guess I'll have to do just that, because the pluses of the tablet far outweigh its minuses. However, eventually it will fail again, probably after the warranty is up. Then I'll be stuck with a pricey paperweight.

I will definitely NOT buy another tablet from ASUS, because their service is terrible.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mr. Rick K,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products that undergo warranty service are fully tested and inspected before being sent out to customers. If you think the issue with the Micro-USB port was not fixed or repaired properly and need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150479575 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsGoogle software update broke my Nexus 7

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: Honestly it was a good device until this last software update fried my motherboard. If you search google and look at recent news stories you will see that the device has been broken by a software update.
When the device was working I had no complaints.

Cons: Device was bricked after a software update that apparently has rendered the device useless. It can't be flashed to correct, it involves sending the device back to ASUS for $200 to replace the motherboard. I would stay away from this product since it appears that proper testing before releasing updates is not being done adequately.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Donald,

The Lollipop OS update for the NEXUS 7 was installed successfully and tested with no problem with unit failing to bootup after OTA. The system failing to bootup or power on after the OS update is possibly related to a wireless network timeout or a conflict cause by a third-party application installed on the tablet. You can try removing the battery for a couple of seconds to clear the memory and reset the hardware. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150450871 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsJust stoppd one day

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: It was nice and fast with a good screen, the android functions were good

Cons: Does not work anymore

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I certainly understand your concern regarding the tablet failing to work suddenly. If the tablet doesn power on or bootup into the Android OS, please try to do a hardware reset by disconnecting the AC adapter and let the battery drain for at least 24 hours, longer time will allow the current and clear the memory completely. After completing this process, reconnect the AC adapter and power on. You may need to try a different known good AC outlet or surge protector. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150376673 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Pure Android Tablet

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: Fast, nice display, runs Lollipop, decent storage for a tablet.

Cons: Could use an sd card slot, but Google drive is decent for backing up and offloading stuff to keep memory space clear.

5 out of 5 eggsBlown away

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: This thing has exceeded all of my expectations. The display is the same resolution as my 24" desktop monitor. Super crisp!
Impressive battery life as well.

Cons: No SD Card Slot. See Other

Other Thoughts: Once rooted I was able to use a USB Card Reader. With a respectable video player app I'm able to do a video shoot, take the card out of the camera and put it into this tablet and preview the raw footage. I've seen client's jaws hit the floor!

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost Excellent

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: The size is exactly what I need. I stopped buying physical textbooks because this tablet is big enough for me to read without having to be bothered by tiny text and a small screen. My back got messed up while I was in the Army, so not having to carry around textbooks or a laptop has made my college life much better. The size, weight, and durability of this tablet are perfect for my needs. It's powerful enough to run pretty much any apps you'll want to use, just like almost every other Android non-low-budget device that has come out within the last year or two.

Cons: One of the speakers started going bad after a few months. One year after purchase, that speaker doesn't work anymore. I tried to get it replaced during warranty, but I would have had to send it in to Asus to get repaired. I'm currently a college student, and I can't go without my tablet for a long time. Luckily, I mostly use headphones, and not the speakers.
I really would prefer a user-replaceable battery and an SD card slot. The 32GB of storage was somewhat annoying until I paid for Dropbox Pro.

Other Thoughts: Despite the cons, I would choose this tablet again over any others that are currently out right now.

5 out of 5 eggsStill hard to beat, even after a year!

This review is from: ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2GB DDR3 Memory 32GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: - Super Light weight
- Slim design

- Screen resolution is beautiful

- 32 GB of storage

- 2 GB of RAM

- Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro is still blazing fast

- Cheap price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have decided to upgrade my two boy's tablets as they are starting to see some age. My oldest is 5 and my youngest just turned 3. My 5 year old is coming from a ASUS Nexus 7 2012 model and the 3 year old is coming from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. My motivation behind the purchase of two of these tablets comes down to the fact the youngest child wants the oldest child's tablet it because it is faster and plays games his tablet will not. So instead of just buying my oldest this tablet, I figured I'd upgrade them both. Oh and they are both Skylander crazy and this tablet works well with the Skylander's Trap Team tablet edition.

This tablet is super fast and you can tell is running a quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM. It is very snappy and has yet to have a hiccup while testing it.

I have ordered AMZER Jelly cases for these tablets and even with the case installed, these are still very light weight. This was a big plus for my little guy. Speaking of accessories, I also purchased 2 QI charging bases off of Newegg (it shipped from another carrier in China therefore I have not received them yet for testing.)

I purchased these two tablets for Christmas and can't wait to see their faces when they open them up.

I also received a $20 discount with a promo code I found on the internet! Great Buy!
