4 out of 5 eggsGood entry level business computer

Pros: Inexpensive - A business laptop for $550, there are cheaper but I like this one.
Durable - our users carry them around for work and beat them up, I'm not saying they survive everything our users throw at them. There are probably very few laptops at this price that can take the beating I've seen our users do. That's why we stay at this price range.
Keyboard - Well laid out and comfortable. The function keys at the top of the keyboard also have alternate controls (such as volume, screen brightness, and etc.) which are the default controls. This can be changed in the control panel to make the F-keys the default ones.
Trackpad - Good size trackpad, Works great once you get use to it. See Cons
Trackpoint - Lenovo also offers their iconic trackpoint numb in the middle of their keyboard as an alternative input device to their trackpad.
Windows - Licensed for Windows 8 but Windows 7 Professional is pre-installed. Does include media for Windows 8
Hardware Maintenance Manual - The ThinkPad series is awesome if you do your own support for small repairs. Using the manual I've replaced broken keyboards, CD\DVD drives, and even cracked displays.
Display - Matt finish that reduces glare

Cons: Display - Resolution is a little low at 1366x768
Wireless - Only supports 2.4 GHz
TrackPad - Takes a little time to get use to. There are no separate left click and right click buttons. You can left click anywhere on the trackpad and right click by using two finger simultaneously. Once you learn that and get use to it, it works great. But it does take some time to get use to.

Other Thoughts: For a $550+ computer you shouldn't expect it to be small and svelte like a Apple MacBook Air. It's a fairly durable entry level computer in Lenovo's ThinkPad line of business computers. It's aim at small businesses. I've purchased around 35 of these laptops and I just ordered 3 more.
The Lenovo ThinkPad E440 has a nice clean and professional look to it. They taper the front edge and sides a little to make it look thinner then it is. The case has a smooth finish but I do miss the rubbery finish that the older ThinkPad Edge E430 had.
They are durable as most of my users are remote and traveling around. Most of our users are on ThinkPad E series computers ranging from E440, E431, E430 and E420. We had a few liquid spills and most of them survived. The two that didn't survive had left their computers on after the liquid spill which is not good. I had one user drop her's down the stairs at her house and it still worked minus some dings.

3 out of 5 eggsThis pad will keep you thinking.

Pros: Lightweight, small, portable. Nice texture. Classic feel. Little red mouse button. Nice and cheap. Battery life.

Cons: Slow to boot, sometimes gets bogged down. Has blue screen problems occasionally.

Other Thoughts: It's about what someone would want for the price they paid. Nothing too flashy. It has power, but it's slow to bring it on.

1 out of 5 eggsGARBAGE

Pros: I cant think of one.

Cons: Ordered 3; of them 1 was DOA, the other two refused to POST after initial setup. IBM indicated bad motherboards.

Other Thoughts: These are a gamble, and not a very good bet at that.
