3 out of 5 eggsGood once set up

Pros: You get what you pay for a cheap product that works.

Cons: The software is kind of redundant and confusing. The scanner is on the loud side and the drivers have had issues installing.

4 out of 5 eggsAdequate For My Needs

Pros: Cheap, easy installation, does what it is supposed to do.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Linux doesn't recognize the scanner in my fancy all-in-one printer so I bought this. It works well with Linux Mint 16 and Simple Scan. After much experimentation, including placing a phone book on the lid, I am getting decent results from this. From other reviews, these don't seem to be known for their durability but I only paid $49 for mine. If it breaks I can buy a new one. I don't scan often but when you need it this one works.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great once configured. Lightweight lid.

Pros: Takes good scans, even for photos and artwork. Reasonable speed. Great quality for the money.

Cons: Lid doesn't want to close all the way. It's very light, and does not apply any pressure to the object being scanned, so it sometimes makes gradients if you don't do something about it. Mine is weiged down by a bible. First time I've found one of those useful.

Other Thoughts: If using Linux, you'll have to play with the brightness and contrast in something other than Simple Scan (SS won't change those settings). Scans will come out muddy and dark. Use xsane or something more powerful like that to compensate for this. Just save your settings for that device and you're done. I guess it's not really that different in work required than dodging Windows junk software in the install. Pick your poison.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, small, USB powered

Pros: You can't beat it for the money. No power brick, compact and works great. So much better than the ancient yellowing one it replaced. Windows 7 (I still don't like windows 8!) picked it up right away and installed drivers and Photoshop saw it right away as well.

Cons: At this price, none!

Other Thoughts: It's worth the money. If you need a scanner and don't want to spend a lot, this is the one, it works great. It's purely usb powered, no big power brick. LED tech, I'm impressed.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT BUY!

Pros: Really easy to use right out of the box and nice features that are a real bargain at his price. It does a nice job scanning and its easy to save to pdf or to email a scan. USB powered, so one less power cable behind the desk!

Cons: Probably not the very best quality scan, but certainly good enough for everyday office documents and email use.

Other Thoughts: Loghtning fast delivery by Newegg much appreciated!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Bang For Your Buck

Pros: The price is very reasonable for the performance and quality of the scanner.

Cons: Includes the scanner driver, but does not include stand-alone scanning software like previous models. You have to provide your own copy of Photoshop or other photo manipulation software.

Other Thoughts: Still the best value for performance. I might not recommend this to someone as a first scanner, if they aren't familiar with 3rd party applications.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent unit

Pros: Lightweight, fast, quiet and quick bootup time when starting my computer. Excellent quality scans for documents and photos. Installed easy, I was up and running in 5 minutes.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if it would accept legal size (11.5x14). Does an excellent job with thick width docs, I just don't close the top lid. Then adjust any black margins out in the scan preview (I use Adobe Photoshop elements, haven't investigated the Canon tool yet). Yes, I know, I've only had it for a week, but so far runs perfect. If it is like my last Canoscan I can look forward to 5 more years at least.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Scanner!

Pros: This is a terrific flatbed scanner, especially for the price.

To the reviewer complaining about the inability to scan the entire platen at full resolution: That's not false advertising. That's because the data from such a scan would be monstrously huge! (Multiply (2400 x 11) x (2400 x 8.5) x 32 and see if it's reasonable to expect that much data to fit in your system's RAM) You can do full-resolution scans of a smaller area -- Preview scan and select a subsection of the platen -- without any problems.

It's USB-powered - No power transformer! *cheer*

For what it is, this scanner is nearly perfect.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Debian Wheezy

Pros: Works with Debian Wheezy, supported by SANE, powered via USB, no warm-up delay (LED lamp), small.

Cons: Sometimes paper slips under the edging of the scanning bed. Buttons will not work with SANE (requires a daemon for polling) but might with BoutonSANE.

Other Thoughts: Recommended scanner.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall a FINE Scanner!

Pros: I've read reviews stating that the scanner is slow but my guess is that the individual should take a look at the PC they are running. I purchased this scanner for my mother a year ago for it's simplicity. My more expensive "high quality" scanner wouldn't work with Windows 8 so I "borrowed" it back for about 3 months to store old documents. It's very fast for a USB powered scanner (and even an AC powered scanner). Image quality is a tad above average and exceeds all other's I've tried in this price range. Great for archiving documents.

Cons: Not a great photo scanner if that is your primary purpose. If you are planning on scanning the family photo album dig a little deeper in the piggy bank. Occasional photos are fine and it does a good job for emailing pics or internet images.
