5 out of 5 eggsnear clone of a different brand

Pros: To my knowledge, this is a clone of a similar speaker produced by Auvio (specifically the HBT2000), just with a battery built into the design. The OEM manufacturer, although Chinese, uses decent components and a clever design which allow for surprisingly good sound. It even competes with speakers in the $300 dollar range from a certain Dr. Dre.

Cons: Sadly, "JLab" will never have the same ring to the common masses as do other brands.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't run on battery - won't pair

Pros: Sounded good when on AC power and while it would still pair.

Cons: The speaker will not run on battery, even after several overnight charging sessions. The lights all indicate that the battery is fully charged but the instant the AC power is removed, it shuts down. In addition, originally it paired with my computer without any problems. Now it refuses to pair with the same computer. It is briefly discoverable and "ready to pair" but the pair process always fails.

Other Thoughts: Returning for refund (thanks to Shop Runner for free return shipping) and will likely go with Bose.

5 out of 5 eggsBouncer Impresses

Pros: I took this deal because we wanted something to take out to the deck when we wanted to listen to some music that had bluetooth connectivity and a battery, hence no wires. The price was right, a real deal compared to some other manufacturers which were literally a couple hundred more.
Well, out of the box I plugged it in and let it sit overnight (12 hours) to make sure it was fully charged before I used it.

Well, the light that was supposed to go solid green when it was fully charged just but did not. There is no indication in the documentation as to how long this should take. So, I called them. Got through quickly to a person who tried to be helpful but only said "overnight should be enough to charge it." and he did not know why the green light did not go solid.
So I just went with it. It connected quickly to my ipad. Found out later that it only connects to one bluetooth device at a time so if you want to connect it to your iphone you would have to disconnect from your ipad as I had to do. No problem really just mentioning it here.

With it now on battery power only, I tuned in to a couple of stations via Tunein Radio. My first impression on some rock stations is that this has a decent volume capability and a bit heavy on base. I don't care for a big boom sound. I checked on a couple other stations and concluded this boom effect may do more to "transmission compression" coming from the stations themselves than to the speaker. I notice this on my home system as well. Sometimes I have to turn my subwoofer off to eliminate the boom effect. So, I went into my ipad " settings and changed the "effect" to "small speakers" instead of the "pop" and then plucked around a bit with other stations and found that this toned down the boom effect I had initially heard.

I next selected a station and put the battery to the test by keeping the volume at over 1/2 volume. So, it was not max but it was still easy to hear from across the room. And I let it play on battery continuously for over ten hours! The little blue light which is to indicate that it was on battery power never turned red which was to indicate it needed a charge. Yes, well over ten hours and it was going strong.
The last couple hours my wife and I enjoyed the "Seriously Sinatra" channel on Sirius played from my Iphone on the deck. The sound was very impressive and filled the deck with great sound for a speaker this size.

I have not checked the "speakerphone" connection yet but that is not why I purchased this speaker anyway.

The little remote works fine. It is directional so you have to be in the speakers front line of sight for it to work but it raises and lowers the volume and mutes very well.

So overall, I have to say this is a great purchase. It does everything it says it can co as a portable battery powered speaker and at a price that impresses too!!!

Cons: The only thing that is problematical is the light that does not tell you when this is fully charged and maybe since I did not drain the battery all the way down when it needs to be recharged.
Also, that JlabAudio tech support did not know how long it should take to charge the battery and that such info is not in the documentation.

Other Thoughts: The price right now on JLabAudio is $159 down from $199. The Newegg price of $89 with Free Shipping makes this an outstanding deal.

Pros: *This thing kicks. Rich, deep bass and smooth, crisp tweeters.
*10 hours of battery life
*Bluetooth works well, no dropped connections.

Cons: No cons with the BOUNCERBATT-BLK-BOX, but my one complaint is that there are models of lesser quality being sold in the same packaging as the BOUNCERBATT-BLK-BOX. I had to make two returns because I was being sent a BLACK-DT version with inferior magnets and sound quality.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you buy a BOUNCERBATT-BLK-BOX model, not one of the DT models. The DT's are not worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible. Nuff said.

Pros: This thing is great. I bought it for my gf at Xmas. She had grown disinterested in connecting her iPhone to our entertainment system with an AUX cable. I wanted to give her something that was A) portable and B) easy to use. The sound quality was not a major consideration. We were both amazed at how good this unit sounded out of the box. Sitting it on a counter in the middle of the room is not the best placement for optimal sound. Instead, place it near a corner opposite your likely listening location for cleaner, deeper bass. The portability factor is great, and she uses it all around the house - inside and out. You can certainly hear it clearly from any room in the house (it gets plenty loud) but for the best experience you can simply unplug the AC adapter and place it near where you're going to be. It has also been great for sharing audio from a YouTube video - I no longer have to cup my hand under the iPad speaker to project the audio for multiple people to hear clearly.

Cons: I wish it had a 1/4-20 threaded hole for mounting. But that's only because it would allow me to use it even more.

Other Thoughts: Great product, simple setup instructions, clear audio, great battery life, good heft (light yet dense).

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware.

Pros: Decent sound depending on where positioned, more bass if placed up against a wall thanks to the rear bass ports.

Bluetooth connects easily.

Cons: When charging the battery the blue light never stops flashing so there is no way to know when the battery is fully charged.
The light is supposed to turn red to let you know when the battery is getting low, it doesn't, the speakers just stop working without warning.
You have to turn the speakers on manually when using battery power then you can use the remote to control things and turn unit off. The remote will not turn on the speakers if using battery power.
Not very portable, needs handle or case.

Other Thoughts: I contacted jLab support about these issues and they sent me a replacement remote telling me that should solve the problems, it didn't so they told me to contact Newegg for a full order replacement under the warranty. That cost me $15.99 to ship the speakers back.

The replacement unit did not perform any better than the original one, I had all the same issues. I emailed Jlab support about this and have so far not received any reply from them. Looks like they are ignoring me now so you can draw your own conclusions from this.

1 out of 5 eggsPurchase with CAUTION or choose to Non-Battery

Pros: Great sounding speaker for the price. This is very comparable, if not better, in sound quality to the Big J**bone speaker also available on the market IMHO. Lows are excellent for the size of the speaker and the volume doesn't crack under pressure. The sound is big from this speaker and will have no problem filling a room, garage, backyard with some excellent clean sound. It also has some nice features with an IR remote control and bluetooth speakerphone capability. This is also supposed to be portable. I say supposed to be since it hasn't worked well for me so far. For the ROS see Cons.

Cons: This is the second one I have received and the same exact problem... The BATTERY is NOT CHARGING! I can certainly understand a fluke thing happening with the first one, but to have the exact same issue as the second one? I have charged it overnight upon first receiving both of these and the first one lasted about 12 hours on a single charge (Possibly the original charge from the factory?). Then after re-charging again overnight with a constant blinking power light indicating that it is charging, it lasted all of about 5 minutes after removing from the charger. Tried recharging again and same thing happens. Called Newegg and got a replacement shipped right away, but then the same thing happened. Only this time, after leaving it plugged in and traveling, took it to the office with me and it only lasted on battery power for about an hour and a half, the first time on battery power (Possibly draining while plugged in?). Charged it again and less than 5 minutes of being on battery power and it shuts off again. Called JLAB Customer Support and spoke to Brandon. He was apologetic, however since this item is so new, they are unaware of any major problems with the battery not charging. He also let me know that they won't have stock of this item until June 2014? since this is a Newegg exclusive, Newegg has all the stock on this item currently.

Other Thoughts: I must be a glutton for punishment because I am trying a third one (Third time's a charm?). Thank goodness for Newegg and their Iron Egg Return policy from the holidays. I spoke to a very nice young lady at Newegg and she was very helpful and very understanding of my situation. Apparently there can only be one advanced replacement performed on an original order, but she was able to accommodate me by pushing through for a second one since I had the exact same issue twice with this item and not so much time remaining on my return policy. I am hoping to not have the same issue happen again as it is frustrating. I will see what happens with the new one and if all works out well, I will update my rating because this is really a nice sounding unit. I like the features it has and I got it for a steal, but if the battery charges, it is well worth paying the regular price for it. If it doesn't, I would not recommend purchasing this item until they fix the battery charging issue, if there is one. Save your money and get the one without the battery because this is a really nice sounding speaker and has some great features, but you're paying more for the luxury of having a battery and keeping this item portable.

Pros: It sounded great during the 4 hours it worked.

Cons: When I received the product I noticed that the box had previously opened and the packaging had been put back together, but I tested the product and it seemed to work just fine. Unfortunately, once the initial charge ran out we were not able to get it to charge again.

Other Thoughts: I got this product on sale for $50 and we were able to get approx. 4 hours of use out of it. Basically I paid $12.50 per hour of use and now I have an oversized paperweight. I contacted customer service to see if they could help me and they said I needed to have the original packaging. I knew that was their policy, but what family of five could actually save every box for every Christmas gift? I have spent thousands of dollars with Newegg in the past and I would never expect to be treated like this over a $50 broken speaker. Also keep in mind that even if I saved the packaging I would have had to pay $15 in shipping to return a $50 product even though they sent me a previously returned or refurbished item. I have never had this problem with other retailers and will be taking my business to them in the future.

3 out of 5 eggsJLab Audio Bouncer

Pros: Price and easy to use. Sound quality OK. Looks quality product.

Cons: It dies after three weeks of occasional uses. No power or led lights. Checked power supply and it was good. Had to pay $15+ to ship back to Newegg for replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsBig sound. Easy to use. Not super portable.

Pros: Gets quite loud. (If it had a dial, it would go to 11.) Very good sound. Easy to pair with a bluetooth device. Long battery life.

Cons: Too big to be super portable. Tried using in car with iPhone as speakerphone. I could hear great. But the other party could not hear my voice very well.

Other Thoughts: Used it in a very large room with 70 people and a high ceiling. It was loud enough for all to easily hear. Good sound quality. Great to jam with your friends wherever you want to take it. Excellent battery life. Not small enough to transport easily or frequently. (I wish it had a handle on top. Check out the dimensions and use a ruler to see how big it is if you'll be moving it a lot..)
