AVS Gear GP-IR01BK Windows Vista Infrared MCE Black Remote Control

Pros: Plug and play on Windows 7. Decent button layout. Can't beat the price. Feels light but doesn't feel cheap.

Cons: IR receiver has little RED LED which flashes when it receives a signal, which seems unnecessary. Felt like I was going to break the battery door off when trying to open it.

Pros: Worked well out of the box.

Cons: Not built to last, but remotes in my family tend not to last.

Other Thoughts: After about 1 year, the remote started to not respond. Reinstalled, removed drivers, nothing would work. Decided to take it apart to fumble with it. Nothing interesting to see, but I had left the front IR window off by accident and it started to work. That didn't last very long, and I think I know why. The actual IR sender was connected very loosely. I'm sure if I didn't let the kids use it, it would work today.

Pros: But it's for my HTPC and works flawlessly

Other Thoughts: I bought to use with xbmc live and it works perfectly. the only thing is that you have to set up lirc manually but that takes 5 mins and for that dont know what do, the instructions are on their forums just search for it.

Pros: Great, simple, easy to use remote. Plug the USB receiver in and it just works (Windows 7). *Even my wife can use it.*

Cons: I suppose the button layout could be a little nicer, but it's really not a problem as it is now.

Other Thoughts: It really helped to make our home theater PC our primary entertainment device, we even ditched cable!

Pros: Good shape and size. It is quite comfortable. Good button layout. Good weight.

Cons: Requires line of sight between the remote and reciever but I knew that when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: Using it with EventGhost for XBMC (Windows 7) and it works very well.

Pros: It works with MCE.

Cons: Does not work with Intelliremote. Cannot find any software that will let me remap the keys of this remote to simple keyboard keystrokes

Other Thoughts: I do not understand why it is so difficult to find software to do what I want to do, when what I want to do is so freakin simple.

Pros: Works with Windows 7 x64 running XBMC.

Cons: Like others have said, buttons cannot be reconfigured and it cannot be set to start XBMC instead of Windows Media Center.

Other Thoughts: I hope to figure out a workaround to some of the button functions to make them do other things, but for now the basics are fine for use in XBMC so I don't have to use a keyboard and mouse. Wife is happy.

Pros: Nice looking remote & I'm sure it works beautifully with WinMCE. Lots of options & keys for just about any function

Cons: If you are thinking of using this remote for a MythTV (mythbuntu) DVR/HTPC forget it. After exhaustive efforts to find a solution, this remote is deemed unsupported.

Other Thoughts: If you have a MythTV HTPC, I recommend the StreamZap remote - it works FLAWLESS. Too bad Newegg does not carry it. I hope to submit the StreamZap product info to Newegg in hopes they decide to carry it as it is a dream remote solution for any MythTV/XBMC HTPC!

Cons: Seems like overkill to have both the play, ff, rw, pause, stop and a separate set of buttons for up arrow, down arrow, ok, etc

Buttons to bring up the guide, recorded shows, live tv are very small. It's usually easier to navigate through the on screen menus

Buttons aren't backlit and because of the size some light is needed in a dark room

Other Thoughts: Wondering if an XBox remote wouldn't be better...
