4 out of 5 eggsGreat mid-level LEARNING remote

Pros: Has Customizable LCD buttons: LCD buttons can be programmed for single function or carry a macro within it. LCD has a multi-page function. Use all 10 buttons? Make a new page with 10 more slots. Setup "Wizards" help with initial setups. For Favorites lists, it has a surprising number of network logos that are actually current at this writing. You're able to create 10 lists where each can be renamed from the default. 95% of the buttons can be programmed by other remotes!

Cons: Customizing of channel lists in the LCD is cumbersome. It uses a swap approach rather than insert approach. So if ESPN is in slot 10 & ABC is in slot 2, the Reorder function moves ESPN to slot 2 BUT moves ABC to slot 10 rather than bump it down to the next slot position. This requires planning when setting it up.
You also can't rename a programmed LCD button unless you redo the entire process for the button. This is a nuisance if that button has an involved macro in it. You have to reteach it the macro just to get to the point where you can rename the button.
I realize it's a mid-level remote, but would have been nice to be able to upload your own channel logos onto the remote.

Other Thoughts: This is a great mid-level learning remote. Remote has a lot of different sized and grouped buttons rather than few buttons or a touch screen as some of this Philips' cousin remotes have. By having the buttons be different sizes, you can more easily remember by touch rather than by sight, where a certain button is. Combine this with having more buttons and you now don't have to look away from the TV just to do a function. Having fewer buttons or a touch screen requires embedded menus and having to look at the remote. The 8010 reduces the need to look down.
If not all functions are captured by the built in codes, the key to a learning remote is that it can learn or tweak the buttons that didn't come over. I've programmed the Tivo buttons on the remote to control my DVR functions. If the 8010 doesn't have your code, simply teach it the functions one button at a time. All-in-one Home Theater remote? Prgrm the 8010 modes for each mode on the Home Thtr. Put DVD under DVD, Recvr undr Recvr

Pros: It has LCD screen and can be programmed with the Favorite channels (one click switch)...

Cons: Doesn't fully support the Onkyo SR800 Home Theater. It can power it ON and control the sound level. However, Power OFF doesn't work. So I ended up using several remotes. What is the purpose of Universal remote then? It also doesn't have a Home Theater device. I had to use Sound Device settings instead.
When I tried to record a macro, it hangs and will not respond at all.
