1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Fast, I got the rebate check back

Cons: It failed after working fine for 1 year and 8 months.
It was working fine, then my computer crashed and when it automatically rebooted the hard drive was not recognized. And it just made this awful clicking noise. I tried installing it in another computer but the hard drive had the same problem.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately, I backup my hard drive every 1 or 2 weeks. But I still lost about 2 weeks worth of data. I am reluctant to send back the drive to western digital because the drive may have had sensitive data on it.

2 out of 5 eggsAhh Drats!

Pros: Well...it was fast....
Simple WD RMA process.
Downloadable trouble shooting software on the WD website.

Cons: Failed after 2 years of light use in a very well ventilated case.

Other Thoughts: I understand HDs' fail...no big deal. But....after 2 years of use and 3 years remaining on the 5 year warranty, my replacement is refurbished and only comes with a 60 day Warranty.....OH, COME ON WD!!

Pros: Very fast drive that runs like a scalded dog.

Cons: After running flawless for about 2 years, the drive would not boot. Died for no apparent reason. It will spin up but just makes a clicking noise.

Pros: It was everything that it said it was. Extremely fast, and surprisingly quiet.

Cons: After almost exactly two years to the day it refused to boot-up and after running it through every available data recovery software, it would spin-up but it just made clicking sounds. Lost lots of files and irretrievable data.I'm sick about it.

Other Thoughts: Upside: Was still under warranty.
Downside: No data recovery.
Upside: RMA to WD went smoothly; got my replacement
Downside: Finished new build and now I have two of these hd's in raid array and don't trust either of them.

Downside:

3 out of 5 eggsDecent HDD

Pros: Runs well so far.

Cons: Loud.

Other Thoughts: I could have paid less for 2 500 GB drives and set up a RAID 1.

2 out of 5 eggsFast - but big reliability problem

Pros: Fast as a greased pig. This fast drive makes any system run lightning fast. Going from 7200 RPM to 10,000 RPM drive makes a major difference to the speed of XP or Vista.

Cons: I had the first one fail after only six months. It was replaced under warranty, then the replacement drive went south after only four more months. I've never seen a failure rate like this with any other hard disk. I hope the new WD VelociRaptor line is more reliable than what I've seen on the 150 GB Raptor.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome HDD

Pros: I've never experienced any problems with this drive. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones? It's incredibly fast. When I install games, apps, whatever it is, it does it all, lightning quick! For example, I just installed World in Conflict as we speak, which takes up 4GBs and it was done in less than 45 seconds.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Just map your cables well and give this thing some air to breathe; that's all. It's not rocket science now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fast Drive Period

Pros: Works like a charm. Storage for Speed trade-off which is great because we live in a society of "now". The seek/latency times are half that of any other drive. Good stuff.

Cons: 1.5 gb/s (as opposed to 3 gb/s) which means this rate almost negates the fact that the seek times are half that of any other drive. Velociraptor 3 gb/s F-t-W anyone?

The speed increase of data from this drive seems to be directly proportional to the speed increase of the RPMs so... 10 grand F-t-W.

Other Thoughts: Of course anything spinning at 10 grand is going to put off some heat. Made sure my case could dissipate that heat.

quod; having your hard drive located inside what amounts to a mini-wind-tunell.

1 out of 5 eggsFast when it works

Pros: Fast, fairly low noise

Cons: Heat, it is always almost to hot to touch! Reliability is terrible!!!

Other Thoughts: It is always runs hot! As for reliability, I had my first raptor a few months and it crapped out on my. Lost all my data. Got a replacement from WD that one failed on my after maybe 6 months. I'm now buying the velociraptor and if that fails on me within a reasonable amount of time I will NEVER get a WD drive again. So I guess I can mark Maxtor and now WD on my lists to never buy.
