Pros: Faster than IDE (that's not saying much). Good GB/$ ratio.
Cons: Far slower than SSD (advertised to be "as fast" as SSD when booting). Data transfer caps around 100MB/sec. This is comparable (or slower) than a standard SATA drive.
Other Thoughts: Pretty disappointed in the performance of this drive. Yes, it will be faster than your typical slow 5400RPM laptop drive - but the SSD-hybrid aspect of this is a gimmick that does not translate into better performance than a good quality 7200RPM sata drive; and no where even close to an SSD drive.
I would not normally compare it against SSD, but Seagate's marketing does - so this is on them. I own 7 SSD drives of various makes/models and this only has at best, 30% of the performance (my slowest SSD is 300MB/sec, fastest breaks 500MB/sec)
If you use this, the larger performance impact would be going from IDE to AHCI mode (be sure to read precautions before making the change in the BIOS & registry).
This review is from: SAMSUNG D3 Station 5TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STSHX-D501TDB Black
Pros: Large capacity, fast.
Cons: There is a known issue with Windows Vista, 7, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2; they do not work well with drives over 2TB. You can get SOME WD drives to work, but no Seagate. I would assume Samsung would have an issue as well. it has to with the low level formatting on these large volumes.
Other Thoughts: Don't be mad at Samsung. It's a Windows issue, believe me, I've already run Microsoft through the wringer on this epic failure on their part.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: ASRock H61M-DGS LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Works as advertised. Cheap!
Cons: Can't change multiplier for K series CPUs. No USB 3.0. Pretty basic stuff; Questionable support.
Other Thoughts: ASRock did not return multiple attempts to reach their support.READ FULL REVIEW
