Question 1

what motherboards are compatible with these new processors? is B550 fully supported?

Accepted Answer

X570 boards are fully compatible out of the box, although they have said that a new bios should be releasing in January with the others to optimize performance. B550 are compatible but will have features that may not be usable or fully integrated until the bios update in January. B450 boards are not compatible yet but will be in January but may lack full cpu support due to the limitations of the board.

Question 2

Is this going to have onboard video?  (model and when will it be released?)

Accepted Answer

No, the 5600x will not have onboard video. AMD processors with integrated graphics will be denoted with a "g" (i.e 5600g or 5800g as opposed to 5600x or 5800x). There are rumors of AMD launching new CPU's with graphics sometime early 2021. Currently, the fastest available AMD processor with graphics is the 3400g.

Question 3

should i buy a 10900k?

Accepted Answer

As for price for performance no way, you would be better off with the ryzen 7 5800x/9 5900x because they have superior performance, lower tdp (power usage) (105w amd vs 125w intel) and the amd motherboards. Plus the lithography on the intel cpu is twice as larger, so less efficiency. The intel cpu might hace higher clock speeds, but those don't always equal performance. Conclusion: DON'T BUY THE INTEL CPUS NOW THE 5000 SERIES IS OUT! Be patient and wait for the ryzens

Question 4

Was this a paper launch ?

Accepted Answer

In my opinion this does qualify as a paper launch, yes. The demand is predictable. So, if enough inventory is not made before launch that is a deliberate launch, knowing that availability will fail.

Of course, there are cases where demand could outpace expectations, causing SOME delay. But, then there should be statements with specifics about what was planned, what was sold, where it was sent and when it will be available again. And this would normally be a much shorter delay than what we are seeing now. These facts are further evidence that this was a "paper launch" as they have not been forthcoming about the situation and future expectations.

Question 5

Will it come with a copy of Far Cry 6?

Accepted Answer

This is from a thrid-party vendor in Hong Kong which does not provide the free game. That is also why the price is higher than the MSRP need to make sure you buy the one from direct from Newegg for game and correct price point.

Question 6

Do I need to update BIOS on my B550 board to post/get started with my build or does it work right off the bat and I can just update it later? I got all my parts except the CPU because I was waiting for this one specifically.

Accepted Answer

Here's how to do it on Gigabyte boards: Get your motherboard out and don't install the CPU, RAM, or GPU. Put the updated BIOS file bios on a FAT32 formatted USB stick, rename the file to GIGABYTE.bin. IT MUST BE FAT32 FORMATTED AND NAMED GIGABYTE.bin then plug the stick into the BIOS USB port on your motherboard. Connect the 24pin PSU and the 8pin PSU to the mobo, then switch on the psu. Press the Q-flash button on the motherboard IO back panel and a light will start to flash to indicate the flashing has started, it will stop flashing when the process has completed. It took 8 minutes for me to flash a 32MB BIOS file on my B550 board. DO NOT POWER OFF OR INTERRUPT THE PROCESS, THIS MAY RESULT IN THE NEED TO RMA THE BOARD. Other brands of motherboards should have a similar process, search the manufacturer website or ask their tech support for their exact instructions. As a side note I had a specific USB3.0 stick that wouldn't work for some reason so I used an old USB2.0 stick and it worked first try.

Question 7

Would this processor work better then what the ps5 has? would a msi pro b450m pro vdh plus support it?

Accepted Answer

the PS5 has an 8 core or a "ryzen 7" but the clocks are lower and zen 2 arch. so this 5000 series is higher clocks with 2 less cores on a Zen3 and uses less power. So "YES" i would say this is better than a PS5 build. SOME B450 will support it with a Bios update. you can pick up an X570 with Gen4 PCIE lanes pretty cheap and take the guess work out of it. i picked one up for 110 USD.

Question 8

Does this have an integrated GPU? Or do I need to get one?

Accepted Answer

The 5600x will need a discrete graphics card, you can get the 5600G which has an integrated graphics card.

Question 9

Is AMD going to release these CPUs in 2021?

Accepted Answer

Most likely, not.

Question 10

I get this is for gaming only, but will i still be able to stream games off of it even if its only just 720p?

Accepted Answer

This CPU is not only for gaming and actually excels in productivity tasks like rendering, sometimes as much as 20% faster than Intel 10th gen per clock cycle. You need a GPU (graphics card) for gaming with this CPU. I recommend the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti which is at a similar price to this CPU, it comes out in Dec or Jan. Don't waste your money on a RTX 2060 or 1660, the price performance ratio will be much worse than the 3060 Ti.
