Such a small amount of Power in such a small package - My Options in Other section

Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) BOXNUC6I5SYH Aluminum and Plastic Mini / Booksize Barebone System
Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) BOXNUC6I5SYH Aluminum and Plastic Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: - Small footprint - lots of processing power for the small package it runs in - excellent for a family member who just does email, internet, and photo's and does not have a big work space... seriously 4x4 inches... Awesome!

Cons: -none

Overall Review: ports for HDMI (full size thank you!) ... too close together if you in my case have a DVI to hdmi adapter and a Ethernet plug to use... I got around it by removing the hood on the cable still this left the adapter putting a little pressure on the power plug Drivers for device do not get auto-installed with windows | Seriously this was annoying to deal with as my desktop gear does it all automatically ... make sure you check your bios version to avoid the errors people have reported - I didn't experience but at time of this writing 0042 was most recent version... My bios update via USB and the file in bios spooked me when the thing went so fast and the unit was off with a flashing orange light... I did not know what to make of it so i left it be for 15 minutes... then I took the chance and unplugged the power and pushed the power button and it came right up *thank heavens* ... suggest others go with the in OS update option to avoid this... Noticed if I have a lot of usb plugged in sometimes the unit will not post... but if I unplug them leaving just the basics it is fine... not sure what to make of this but it is distracting ...I loading windows 10 onto this to give it to my sister and I will report back here on how it handles her... ...went with this build.... Previously RMA'd Drive DEAD in six months

WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - was crazy fast ... for about six months....

Cons: - dead after six months... this drives brother died after four months

Overall Review: - only saving grace was WD is now giving me the 2tb model of this drive and I got them to pay for the return shipping on the second return... least that is something Honestly I do not know what the heck is going on but if WD wants to save its reputation on here they better figure out what is causing these failures because seriously I cannot go restoring data every six months. My first drive gave me warnings for awhile and I was able to save data... but the RMA'd drive just fell flat on its face with no warnings at all. Luckily I have all the data that was on this drive duplicated but I lost six hours of work today as I work from home and my main system SSD is enough for the OS and a few minor programs but my DATA drive was this... now I am crippled and having to settle for remote access to another machine which again affects my ability to do my job! Western Digital I suggest you light a fire under whoever is in your QC department as there is something seriously wrong here.

...Wow..

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980Ti 6GB XTREME GAMING OC EDITION, GV-N98TXTREME-6GD
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980Ti 6GB XTREME GAMING OC EDITION, GV-N98TXTREME-6GD

Pros: - can crank the visuals and shadows in almost everything without care with exception of my xplane
- 6GB of texture memory ensures you have plenty to spare if you sim regular games I don't expect you to hit memory pressure there even at 4k
- easy enough to control the fans... I just let it sit on auto
- you can easily add power tweaks live while gaming so you can see how far you can push the envelope with just a few clicks... I hate teh cost I had to pay on the card but I see considerable benefits that my 680 could not deliver anymore with only 2GB of video memory of all things.

Cons: - software doesn't have ability to add custom overclock profiles

Overall Review: - with the added performance boost the more fan noise you get
- I got this for XPLANE and even though this thing is top flight I still have to mind my settings... I on i7-3770 but the cpu is not taxed but if I throw on the high rest textured aircraft I can still make the FPS drop...
- I don't use SLI or see the need as I target 40 FPS in my sims everything else this card eats up and asks for seconds so if you are a flight sim person you cannot go wrong here... just be ready to spend a lot of time tweaking but you get a good payoff for sure UPDATE 03/24/2016: Still kicking here and looks like NVidia finally got the driver issues corrected as I was having so much crashing in games *stock clocks no O/C made no difference* ... a few driver revisions later it is running happily and I loving it...

Bought 4 of these...

Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - I bought four of these for my NAS and they are all performing 100%
- Honestly I would not go putting too much worry on this as seriously if they failed at all like how these people are saying I would have lost one by now and OH SNAP... I have not... UPDATE: Almost 4 years of use in my QNAP and I started getting notices about the smart test failure on one of the 4... Already looking at expanding the array with a expansion unit but for what I paid I got my moneys worth out of these bad boys

Cons: - None .. bought four and all four work

3 years still kicking

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I have been sporting the PRO version of this board sometime now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I am unsure what the people who reported issues were doing differently to cook theirs but I have no touched a thing on mine this whole time and worse I have had is a dead SSD disk which they don't last forever...

Cons: Stacked SATA ports really make it hard to plug in devices if your cables are of the thicker variety as they have those secure clips now which make it a challenge to slip things out so if you end up needing more cables make sure you get the slimmer ones

Overall Review: I have also had RMA experiences in the past with ASUS and can say the RMA process was slow but I got back up and running each time I needed it. I don't know how people cooked their boards unless they seriously messed up their over-clocks... of course I never overclocked mine so perhaps that is why my board has not melted. I also have a HAF case... I can say I have never had a failure like some have described and only close situation was a friend of mine who did a bad install many years ago and damaged the board when they used one too many standoffs and grounded the board to the chassis...

Saitek PRO Flight TPM System - Throttle/Prop/Mixture Axis
Saitek PRO Flight TPM System - Throttle/Prop/Mixture Axis

Pros: - Solid construction - easy to configure - extra switches useful if you need more things binded to them... I use them as my circuit breaks...

Cons: None

Overall Review: Make sure you have a powered usb hub if you are buying these Pro Flight items... your motherboard will quickly run out of ports and won't be able to power all of them itself anyway.... 12V 5A 13 port by Anker is the one I went for... - Wish the buttons were toggle as to use them you have to flip them twice depending on the function you assign to them...
