ASUS Nails It Again
Pros: -Beautiful board out of the box, as with all Maximus boards. -PCI-E 5.0 support. -10Gb ethernet port which actually reaches upwards of these speeds. -Solid memory support right from the get-go. -Big improvements to the formerly heinous ARMOURY CRATE software. -Plenty of head room for thermals. -DIMM.2 has been flawless and excellent for M.2 support and speeds. -Includes a (now functional) fan controller to keep headers empty & clean. -The LED displays are incredibly functional and helpful.
Cons: -The fan controller would *not* work for me for the first month of ownership. I don't know if there was an issue with ARMOURY CRATE or with the actual controller software or the controller device itself... but I could not address a single fan or anything on it. ASUS forums had a few threads about it and to my shock, ASUS actually released an update via ARMOURY CRATE and voila, it now properly functions! -I'm not sure if it was a Corsair issue with one of my memory kits not being properly "binned" or if it was the board, but I had to troubleshoot my memory for a whole two days. Intitially, I could only run 2x 32GB memory modules and a second pair would just not post. They worked fine when the pairs were swapped separate from one another, but all four would just not post if installed together. ASUS released two BIOS updates rather quickly. One I had to install the moment I got the board and a second BIOS update was pushed out maybe two or three weeks later. Found it odd and surely enough, with a third 32GB DDR5 kit from Jeffrey Bezos, one of the original pairs and the replacement pair now posted happily and I was able to start up.
Overall Review: As always, ASUS killed it with this latest rendition of their flagship Maximus Extreme motherboards. Beautiful design, "flexing" with on-board LED screens and displays, and the intuitive and solid DIMM.2 slot still functions like a champ. This is now either the 5th or 6th ASUS 'Extreme' branded motherboard I have owned and every single one has topped their predecessor. I was fortunate enough to purchase the 13900KS an anticipate having it this coming week when the "official" retail launch takes place. Needless to say, my wife is excited to take the 13900K over as her own! I'm currently waiting to upgrade the GPU to pair with the board as I've yet to even have a single hiccup in 4K Ulta/Max everything etc issues on my 3090. I'm currently waiting until the 4090 Ti's launch since GALAX all but confirmed their existence and NVIDIA has already begun hoarding AD102's for. This will be the final piece of the build which I genuinely don't mind waiting for. Full Build Specifications -ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme. -ASUS ROG Thor2 1200W Platinum II PSU. -Intel i9 13900K --> Intel i9 13900KS. -4x 32GB Cosair Dominator Platinum DDR5 6000MHz. -2x Samsung 990 PRO 2TB in RAID0. -ASUS ROG Ryujin II 360 RGB AIO CPU Cooler. -EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid. -EVGA DG87 Case w/ Custom Tempered Glass Side Panel.
Fan Arrived DoA
Pros: Best bang for buck, excellent processor, water cooling system is great if you're not going to be heavily overclocking
Cons: Fan on the water cooler arrived 'clicking' -- bearing already went bad. Just tried emailing ASETEK to see if they will send me a replacement 120MM fan.
Overall Review: Hoping ASETEK or AMD sees this so we can get it resolved for when I finish my build...
Simply The Best
Pros: Quiet. Fluid design. Incredible warranty. Excellent addition of extra cables, extensions, and silence solutions.
Cons: Absolutely ugly.
Overall Review: I used two of these to replace the fans on my ASETEK AMD Performance radiator. They are MUCH quieter than the stock fans and move A LOT more air, efficiently. They mounted just as a standard 120MM fan would and the extensions provided me the option to tuck and run these cables off cleanly.
Excellent
Pros: Small, easily concealed, straight forward setup, no drivers are necessary. Powers my USB devices excellently.
Cons: Adhesive velcro seems iffy, just affix to an area that won't cause the adhesive to breakdown.
Edit
Pros: They now edited the title to OEM.
Cons: It wasn't listed before.
Overall Review: This is in addition to my previous post.
Practical Bargain
Pros: I originally got this laptop from Best Buy on May 17th, 2008 as a gift. It was $800 form Best Buy and man, what a great value. This little tyke has 4GB of memory, an AMD Dual Core, and a 250GB 5,400RPM Drive (Swapped out for a 7,200 RPM). A week ago, my sister request a laptop for her birthday. She is a major Facebooker/Myspacer so I didn't want to go all out, but I still wanted her to have a little bit of horse power in her machine. So, I ordered this laptop from Newegg (obviously) because of its great reliability. This laptop is a great value for students and mediocre gamers. It runs World of Warcraft on max settings and ran Oblivion on low settings. Not to mention, it has a media center remote. I kick back in my dorm room, hook it up to my projector, and just watch movies in my spare time.
Cons: -Does not have an HDMI-out connection. -Does not come with a 7,200 RPM hard drive. -Comes with a lot of bundled software preinstalled. -Had 'The Sims 2' installed when I bought it...?!? -Not Windows Vista Ultimate.
Overall Review: Definitely a good machine for people going-back-to-school. And parents, if you are worried about your kids play games, don't worry, they won't if you keep the included hard drive in the machine.
