I use mine on a pc and a mac, both, pc at home and mac at work. If formated to fat that is, if you format it to ntfs, it will only work with pc (correcting; if formated to ntfs, you will be able to see and copy from it, but not write anything to it, on a mac). On a pc with ntfs, you can do as you will, even put very big files in to it, (I don't think there is a file limit size) where in fat format you are limited to 4gb file transfers in to it, no bigger, it will not let you.

I have a Dell Percision 3800 running Windows 7 - Seagate 2TB runs well on both 3.0 and 2.0 USB.  Of course I use the 3.0 port most of the time but I did try the 2.0 port to see if it worked.   There was no issue but it was slower than the 3.0 as you would expect.

You sure can. Plug it in, start copying folders/files. That's how I've always used my external drives, including this one. The drive will not "make" you use it's software.

The dimensions are 4.5 inches long, 3 inches wide, & 0.5 inches tall.  The physical memory as stated is 2 Terabytes, or 1024 ^ 4.  If that is no help then look it up on wikipedia

Will this work with a dock-able laptop?  What happens if the laptop is not there when it's time for the backup?

It all depends on the backup software you're using.   Most laptop docks are "dumb" - that is, if the laptop isn't attached to it, it's a paperweight since it's controlled by the laptop.  But, more to the point, it doesn't really make sense to try to backup to a physical drive in a dock when the laptop isn't connected to it unless you have a broadband connection to it somehow.  Better to just backup to the cloud and then to the drive when you reconnect the laptop to the dock.
