It died

Pros: Lots of storage at a reasonable price

Cons: First one was physically damaged. The pins from the power plug broke. It is probable that I was a little rough with it while trying to organize cables. WD promptly replaced. Nice job. Except the second drive came with no warranty. It lasted about 90 days and suddenly quit. First folders started disappearing, refresh seemed to work. I rebooted the PC and the drive was dead. I have tried other PCs. No luck. It is dead. WD has not been responsive. Unable to register the drive with their website.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace another brand 8T that has bad sectors. The drive is still weak, but still working. Going back to the other brand.

Quality hdds, works great in Synology NAS

Pros: Lots of space, reliable storage

Cons: These drives are much louder than the smaller 3TB drives, keep away from living room

Big & Quiet for personal storage

Pros: - Large Capacity
- Very Quiet
- Good Price per GB / Value

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I have 2 of these placed in a HP Proliant Gen9 mini-server, configured in Raid 1. Performance, for my usage cases and workload, has been just as good as my HGST drives - bulk transfer is limited by GigE network speeds. The server lives under my desk and is silent, even when the drives have spun up from sleep. These WD Red Drive seems to "wake up" a bit quicker than the other drives I have used. Totally sold on the WD Red line for high capacity bulk storage.

3/8 disks showing re-allocated sectors after about 11000 power-on hours

Pros: -Performance is about what you'd expect for a 5400 RPM drive
-SMART seems to reporting drive state accurately

Cons: -3/8 drives ordered have showed re-allocated sector counts that have been creeping up month-to-month and eventually required replacement

Other Thoughts: -Installed in a Synology DS1815+ w/ infrequent periods of heavy write activity but mostly just brief read activity during business hours
-Two batches of drives showing failures

Although you can utilize the Red drive in an external enclosure or as a primary/secondary drive, the WD Red drive is intended to be used in 3rd party NAS enclosure that support RAID, for use with other RED drives in that array.

As a troubleshooting step, please test the drive on Windows using our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics program. If it passes the test we recommend testing another drive bay or SATA port on your system.

If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary.

Pros: I bought 4. I ran S.M.A.R.T. Tests on them. None were DOA.
After a few weeks of use inside a QNAP NAS, none of them have had alerts.

Pros: Pretty solid have three running for plex. There doesn't seem to be any issues. I've owned the first one about 8 months now without any problems.

Cons: Wish I would have just bought 7200rpm now that the price is lower but ah well they work fine.

Other Thoughts: Dude space costs money and that sucks but dig it dude.

WD Quality Excellent Drives

Pros: Have 2 now great storage low read/write speeds as they are 5400 for price and tech out now should be spinning at 7200 for the price

Never had DOA or a WD drive die yet still have drives 10+years old in use

Cons: none not dealt with customer service ever but no dead drives ever
