Also keep in mind that this controller run very hot around 122F you will need to have a good vetilations also you will lost trim function

Can I run a RAID 6 array with 4 drives and have another set of drives operate in JBOD mode at the same time or does the card require either all RAID or all JBOD?

I just got mail from Microsemi (Adaptec).  You can indeed have a set of drives in JBOD mode while others are in RAID arrays.  The card can be set up so that the drives not in RAID will be considered "raw" and are exposed to the operating system.  Cool.  I'm buying this card.

Question 3

What would be the best cables to connect the Adaptec 8805 to my Supermicro 747TQ backplane with 8 SAS drives?  Can't wait to get this card.  Thanks!

Yea I understand this seems like a "RTFM" question, but I did read the manual for the backplane.  All it says for the 8 backplane connectors is that they are "SAS connectors."  No other spec.  The backplane is the Supermicro SAS-747TQ that says SAS/SATA right on the board.  I'm seeing in the 8805 user guide that it has 2 mini-SAS SFF-8643 connectors.  So my best guess is to use two of the Microsemi 2279800-R fan-out cables 9like another user here did).  Is that correct?  I have eight 12Gbps SAS drives and I guess I'll be limited to a 6Gbps connection for each this way, correct?  Thanks to anyone willing to educate me.

Question 4

Does anyone know of a heat sink replacement for these controllers?   One that has the side air duct?   I have four I/O cards lined next to each other and there is no air flow.  If I stick a fan on this heat sink, then it takes over the next slot.   Want a thinner heat sink with fan that flows up maybe draws from the back.

Hello Joe, was imposible for me to remove the oem heatsink, look like the paste with time get glued to the processor, what i make a bracket and put a fan in the side and it's working properly
