I do wish to game on this computer but is mainly for animation. is this a good GPU for animation or can you recommend something better?

I purchased this card for guaranteed compatibility and support for professional applications including Solidworks, Altium and Rhino, etc. I also needed support for multiple 4K monitors and wanted to make the move to Displayport.  Really happy with this switch and will be using Displayport for many, many years to come...  Sure, games will work but one can get more performance from a game card (which are over-clocked and less reliable in general).  That being said, I had problems with game cards and their compatibility with professional hardware as well as their stability during heavy and constant use.  That is why I own more than one workstation which are all equipped with the more modern version of the FirePro cards like this W7100...  Professional use is my top priority (but not only priority) which is why I only consider the professional line of video cards as they meet all the other requirements at some performance level while providing more stability.  Who doesn't want a stable workstation?

hey can anyone tell me if this card can be used with intel i5, with no problems what so ever?

It should work just fine. Just make sure you get the proper ISV certified driver from AMD's site for the application you are running.

Can dual 7100 cards be used together in the same workstation?

Yes, I have not but google "SAPPHIRE uses four AMD FirePro W7100 video cards to power an insane 16-monitor setup at Computex 2015" AMD doesn't list Crossfire as one of this card's features. The Crossfire connector on these cards looks different; not sure what cable/part number they used for that. Also keep in mind the wattage and memory requirements for running just one of these cards - do the math for adding additional cards.

If you're looking to strictly game, you can spend this much money on a gaming graphics card and will do much better for gaming. This card is better for 3D CAD programs like SolidWorks and such. It sure can handle plenty of games very well but for the money you can get a better "gaming" card.

what brand and model of DP to DVI adapter are the 2 in the box?  I need to end up with 4 similar and extend them about 100', then convert to HDMI without audio.

I specifically asked what brand and model were in the box.
Other than wanting that info, I am coming out of this card with four separate outputs of original (generated) graphics to be meshed together on 4 projectors (wall) each about 100' away.  The projector inputs are native 1920x1080 on both an MHL and/or an HDMI input.  I may have EDID issues (too), but my final pieces will need to function in this environment.  I would like specifics of what (product)  is known to work please, if anyone has done this.

Compatible with PCI2.1?

If by 2.1 PCI, you mean 2.1 PCI-E, then yes, it will simply run at half maximum bandwidth for the PCI-E slot. This should have a pretty small impact on actual performance. I'm running a 290x (also PCI-E 3.0) in my PCI-E 2.0 slot and it works just fine.
