Don't have exact measurements but the heatsink and fan is the standard heatsink and fan that comes with all amd processors no more than 2.5 inches tall I'd say! Don't think you're going to have any problems...

Well,

If you buy this CPU in the retail box, you'll get the heatsink unit with the thermal compound already applied to the surface contact.

If you want to buy an aftermarket thermal compound, for this particular CPU, it won't matter much.  Something good but cheap, such as Arctic Silver "Ceramique" would be fine.

Are this compatible???? First time building a PC, I know its not the best but but its meant for Internet browsing.

If you want to find out of the products will be compatable, the first place you want to start with is the motherboard.  Go to the motherboards website and read the spec and listed compatible CPU and Memory types.  In this case go to Gigabyte:

Just from a quick glance, the The AMD A4-4000 Richland 3.2 is not listed as compatible with the motherboard.  If you had the AMD A4-4000 Trinity 3.0 it appears there would be no problem.

As for your choice of memory to put on that motherboard; the 
ADATA XPG V1.0 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model AX3U1600C4G9-RR is not listed as compatible.

However, the ADATA 4GB 240-pin DDR3 1600 model AX3U1600GC4G9-BG is listed as compatible.

Your power requirements will also depend on the type of Video card you plan on putting into your computer as well.  So make sure to read up on your video cards power usage at max performance and then look at what that will also be added with your CPU and memory's use will also be.   So far, that power suppy seems to be sufficient, but once again it will depend on your video card power needs.

Anyone know if this CPU will work decently for playing Rift or World do Warcraft?  I have a GeForce 550ti graphics card.  Needing to replace an Intel i3 that froze during play and comp won't power up.

The onboard GPU is fail for anything requiring realtime rendering. However, since you have an addon card, this should serve well enough.

You should always look at the specs on the laptop. Mainly the motherboard that is inside. If the motherboard supports it, then you should be good to go.
