Is okay 5/4/2020 12:29:49 PM

Pros: The graphics in it stopped working, and the 2 cores 4 threads was not enough for what I needed. I upgraded it.

Cons: None if you are a light user on your PC

Overall Review: Okay for someone that doesn't game and listen to music at the same time with other tabs open

Great Budget CPU 4/23/2020 9:22:52 PM

Pros: Low power
Low Cost
2 core with 2 thread
Included cooler is adequate.
Onboard GPU

Cons: For what I need, none

Overall Review: Needed to update my old family desktop (Phenom II 830 x4) on the cheap and this seemed to fit the bill.
Grabbed this CPU, a Gigibyte B450M DS3H board and 8 gigs (2x4) of Ballistix 2666 RAM from Newegg and used some old parts I already had to finish it out (Old Rosewill case, Antec 400w PSU, Corsair MP300 M.2 NVME drive). From arrival to powered on was less than 30 minutes.
While nothing to brag about, it does everything I need quite quickly.
My 13 yr old son noted immediately it was running faster.

Running the RAM at 2666 speeds under XMP.
Have not tweaked timings yet, played with software overclock a little (bumped it up to 3.5 on stock volts). Not really what I bought it for, but you have to play with it if it is there, right?

This is a web surfing computer, Office type work and some school work, and my son does play a few online games (nothing high end), so no need for a GPU, the Vega 3 works fine for his needs.

Bent pin. 2/20/2020 6:32:57 AM

Pros: Nice CPU.

Cons: Bent pin.

Overall Review: Over, I'm happy with this processor, but it arrived with one bent pin. I went to install it and it wouldn't seat properly. Examined the pins and sure enough one was bent over completely. I was able to carefully lift it up with a dental pick and fully straighten it with a mechanical pencil. Installed it and it works fine, whew!

Greatest Dual core CPU 6/15/2019 1:34:53 AM

Pros: I have bought 2 of these CPUs and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more. They drop into any AM4 motherboard, first and second gen chipsets. I have paired this with a B450 M aorus board, Corsair 3000Mhz memory, and a GTX 1060 3GB video card. I have tested the system with a number of productivity apps and games and it has performed surprisingly well. Best CPU in its price range, without a doubt.

Also would be a nice spare to flash a gen1 motherboard in order to use a 2nd gen Ryzen chip.

Cons: Memory speed. Due to the 200GE limitation, ram will not be able to run over 2666Mhz speed.

UPDATE--The B450 Aorus M as of BIOS F32 now is able to maintain XMP profile of 3000Mhz. It appears the memory controller is more dynamic than reported earlier.
I am currently running 8Gigs of Gskill DDR4 at 3000Mhz. Gigabyte is doing an excellent job of supporting this little beast!

Overall Review: With the F3 BIOS, I was able to overclock the processor to 3.6Ghz with no additional voltage. This maintains the 35 Watt TDP.
UPDATE-- I did some further overclocking and was able to hit 3.8Ghz with a modest voltage bump. I ran Cinebench R 20 at this speed and it matched a core i5 4690k in both single core and multicore.

If you're considering this for a budget gaming machine at 1080p, don't hesitate. Software sees it as a quad core, the hyperthreading is impressively implemented. Its cool, quiet, and the stock heatsink fan will allow modest overclocking with just a multiplier increase. I absolutely love these little CPU's.
