Question 2

Could I use this CPU to update BIOS on a GIGABYTE A88X MINI ITX Board? I want to use the new AMD Kaveri APU A10-7850k on a compatible FM2+ MINI itx board (this Gigabyte one is the only mini MOBA with FM2+ that I could find, if there are others let me know) but apparently you need an older AMD FM CPU to update and flash the bios to the newer one.

Will this CPU do the trick?

Honestly that is far too deep of a question for me, I would suggest asking at tomshardware that guy is great. Off the top of my head though, I'm not sure the board has to be a mini mobo. It seems you would be better off finding a board with an fm2+ socket that has matching on board devices like LAN and audio and matching or at least a compatable chipset. **Two questions
I bought this processor and this motherboard: ASRock FM2A78M-ITX+.  QUESTION 1: I was planning on just using the on-board video of the motherboard, but am I correct in that I would need a video card with this processor?  QUESTION 2: Can I use DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) in combination with this processor?  I know the processor is compatible with the motherboard, and I know the ram is compatible with the motherboard, so back to my second question, is the processor and ram compatible.

To answer your first q: yes, you do need a video card for the processor even if the board has integrated gfx. Newegg has some effective amd cards for low to mid grade builds on the cheap.

Secondly, yes, the ram will work as long as it's compatible with the mobo.

To continue, always supply all of your information in your question in order to get the answers you need. To wit, mobo make, model and ram brand, size, speed.

Amd also integrates graphics in their APUs. In my opinion, you should opt for a strong cpu and gpu in the stead of an apu for sims, gaming.

Whats the best gpu for this part?

Honestly, the list is long and depends on your budget and expectations. Truthfully I'd never hook up a GPU that retails for more than $130 for a dual core CPU. There's no statistics or complex reasoning behind that, it's just a personal metric I use. I'd recommend a Radeon HD 7750 or maybe even one of the new R7-260x GPUs which have True Audio. As long as you buy an FM2+ motherboard (which you should at this point- it'd be silly to buy an FM2 board now) you could always take this out and drop in a Kaveri chip next January which will natively link up with the R7-260X for a total parallel processing performance (GPU) level of around a Radeon HD 7970 which plays all modern games like a champ.

Can I use this in a Z77 extreme 4 motherboard?

Unfortunately, no, you will not be able to. The board you are looking at has an Intel socket on it, whereas the processor is AMD's socket FM2. The ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ would be an example of a motherboard that would be compatible with this processor.

Conversely, if you're looking for a processor that would be compatible with the Z77, then you'll be looking for an LGA1155 Intel processor. A Core i7/5/3 will work with this, as will Celeron and Pentium processors as well, according to ASRock's support CPU list for this model. Just make sure you are getting one that is for an LGA1155 socket.

My processor has these four holes on the ping side does this have the same thing? There is no picture I can see.

I'm not really sure what 4 holes you might mean, but if you are referring to a FM2 processor that you already own, post a pic. As long as your mobo is socket FM2, this will work. My advice, though, is to spring for the Quad-core. The increase in cost is minimal and the increase in compatibility with newer programs makes it worth it.

Would the FM2A55M-VG3+ motherboard by ASRock work with this CPU?

the ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4-M FM2 AMD A85X is the only ASRock motherboard shown at Newegg at the moment that is compatible with an FM2 processor.  However I have an ASRock FM2A55M motherboard and it clearly says "FM2".  So I think the answer to your question is YES.  I have not yet built a computer with it.  David

No. The Dell Inspiron series is Intel only. Intel chipset mainboards and intel cpu. You need a FM2 board to use this CPU.
