AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU 2/17/2020 7:00:05 PM

Pros: Great power house CPU for an all around gaming/household PC.
Runs at 3.9GHz almost constant. (Never physically OC'd the processor, as its more than fast enough already for my use).
Automatically OC's within safe parameters. (Max Boost)
Comes with a half decent CPU Cooler if you don't plan on an OC past what it will run itself.
20-25c IDLE (air temp varies)
50c under load is highest I've seen with my aftermarket Air Cooler. (Running 10 bot copies of an older game, Chrome playing Youtube, Proxifier, and playing a modern AAA title in 1080p).

Cons: None so far
Glad I made the switch to Team Red

Overall Review: 100% recommended!
In my opinion this is one of the best all around "Budget" CPUs on the market.
Paired with the MSI B450 Tomahawk and G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200, this is an extremely solid sytem that was all plug and play.

Cheap quality 2/13/2020 3:06:18 PM

Pros: Was sweet while it lasted

Cons: Took me a few tries to get it to work at first. It ran fine for about a week then randomly died. Definately got a bad product

Overall Review: Hope I can get a replacement

Works great - Horrible bracket though 2/11/2020 7:09:15 PM

Pros: Provided cooler works wonderfully even at near 100% use. Got it on super sale and am very happy with the price.

Cons: I understand that the provided bracket is a very secure bracket type, but it installs directly to the CPU mounting plate. This ends up being a three handed job. Insert thermal compound into the mix and it quickly became a huge pain to install the cooler. Without a doubt the hardest part of any install I have done given my case arrangement.

Overall Review: Would buy again. Just wish it had a different bracket for the included cooler.

Great price for great performance ! 2/11/2020 12:31:24 PM

Pros: - Good performance
- Well maintained temperature

Cons: - Some similarly priced Intel CPU can beat it in single thread, ex: games.

Overall Review: - I know Ryzen a lot, I now owns 3 of them, including a threadripper 1950.
- The price for this one was A LOT lower than the 3rd gen. I'm really happy because of the bang for the buck.
- It's doing great in the games I've put on it.
- With 6 cores there is plenty of horsepower left.

Great CPU, but how much of an upgrade depends on where you're coming from. 2/8/2020 2:02:15 PM

Pros: Coming from an X5660, actual pros:

Lower power consumption, overclocked or not
Supports newer instructions
Much better multi-core performance
Viable upgrade path thanks to AMD's business model
Better compatibility with newer GPU's (Vega)

Cons: Stock cooler is straight up scary to put on, took so much pressure I thought for sure it was going to damage my CPU/MB. Apparently this is normal. Performed just OK, but I ended up going to Scythe for air and eventually Fractal for water. Both highly recommended.

No case badge. Seriously, I was looking forward to putting it on the case for my new build and I didn't get one. Shame on you AMD.

Overall Review: Owner for almost 1 year.

I was on X58/1366 for 10 years, i7 920 from 09' to 15' then figured out the deal with the cheap used Xeon's.

Long story short, I should've waited a few more months. Built right before AMD 3k series dropped, thought I was buying smart picking this at the end of the life cycle. The current prices of this chip and 3k series equivalent proves me wrong.

I carried over my then current GPU (Tri-X OC 290) so I could directly compare the CPU/RAM upgrade. From a gaming standpoint, there wasn't much improvement. Biggest improvement overall was encoding MP3 to FLAC, which gave a massive reduction in encoding times.

My advice, if you are on a X58/Xeon system, have your heart set on switching teams like I did... go with the 3k series, or probably even better, wait out the 4k series and 600 series boards that are coming at the end of the year.

With that being said, if you're building your first machine or if you are on something that doesn't perform well these days, this CPU is a absolute steal. AM4 still has a while before EOL and you'll be able to game on this platform for many years to come. If you want bang for your buck, AMD is where it's at right now. The only hard decision about this chip is choosing which motherboard/chipset to go with, newer is probably best if you plan to keep it.

Might not sound like it but I was glad to make the switch, AM4 overall has a lot of newer features that you either can't get or have to spend extra upgrading an old system. Gen 3/4 PCI, native USB 3, NVMe to name a few. It's an all around better and modern platform with an upgrade path going forward. Same couldn't be said about my old rig.
