Youd better go with a liquid solution, I had to with my 3960X, it costs a little bit more (double or triple really) but in the end it is an all around better solution, Pair that up with some good Kingpin KPX paste and youll be good to go, my honest opinion best (cheap) water cooling kit is  from Frozencpu
All copper so you don't have to worry about water cooling nightmares like Galvanic corrosion issues, I personally also used the EK Cryofuel (clear) premixed liquid for the loop,
Call FrozenCPU or look at their website and look for the part number ex-wat-437 talk to the dudes there (Max helped me greatly) he will help you get a correct setup, 
Just my 2 cents in dealing with thermal issues with my 3960X now I have 0 thermal issues, Have a good day all!!!

What would be the best motherboard to get with this?

Depends on your goals. I got the TRX40-E Gaming by Asus.
They don't all have 8 RAM slots and they don't all have the ability to use all the PCIe lanes offered by the CPU.

I like anything from Asus, always. Gigabyte and MSI make boards good enough to make the most of this CPU.

Don't forget: you need liquid cooling - either a custom loop or an AIO with a big-enough plate to cover the CPU's IHS.

But can it run Crysis?

Not sure.. my 3960X with 128Gb of ram barely runs a Atari 2600 Emulator and it does that at 90c because it is working so hard.... All SNARK aside pretty sure if you are planning on a 3960X for gaming you are wasting your money, now if you want to run six 4-core VM and run Crysis on each VM that it will do with Ease.

Not sure.. I'm sure they had some, just not many. I have a pre order in elsewhere, too bad for newegg. Most initial stock probably going out to well connected companies, don't expect general availability for 3 months at least.
