Question 1

Should I get the Threadripper PRO 5995WX or 5975WX?

Accepted Answer

Choose the 5995WX for workloads that can use many CPU threads, such as CPU rendering or parallel simulations: it has 64 cores and 128 threads, versus 32 cores and 64 threads in the 5975WX. The 5975WX can be a better fit when your applications do not scale to 64 cores; in Tom’s Hardware’s After Effects render-node test, it outscored the 5995WX. Check benchmarks for your specific software before paying for the extra cores.

Question 2

How does the 5995WX compare with Intel Xeon W-3375?

Accepted Answer

The 5995WX has 64 cores and 128 threads; the Xeon W-3375 has 38 cores and 76 threads. Both support eight-channel DDR4-3200 memory, while AMD specifies 128 PCIe lanes for the 5995WX and Tom’s Hardware lists 64 for the W-3375. The 5995WX is a strong fit when your workstation workload benefits from its higher core count and expansion lanes; compare benchmarks for your applications and account for the platform you already own.

Question 3

Is the 5995WX a worthwhile upgrade from the 3995WX?

Accepted Answer

The 5995WX is the newer Zen 3 generation, while the 3995WX is Zen 2; both have 64 cores and 128 threads. Reviews show that the performance gain varies by application rather than doubling with the core count. Consider the 5995WX if your tested workloads benefit from the newer processor; keeping or choosing a 3995WX may make more sense when its performance already meets your needs or the upgrade cost is not justified.

Question 4

Should I choose the 5995WX or upgrade to the newer 9995WX?

Accepted Answer

Choose the 9995WX if your work can use its 96 cores and 192 threads and you are prepared for a platform change: the 5995WX uses socket sWRX8, while the 9995WX uses sTR5. The 5995WX remains a practical choice when its 64 cores are sufficient or you want to retain an existing sWRX8 system. Compare workload-specific benchmarks and the cost of replacing platform components before upgrading.

Question 5

Does the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX have built-in graphics?

Accepted Answer

No. It has no integrated graphics, so a system using this processor needs a separate graphics card for display output.

Question 6

Will this processor work with my existing motherboard?

Accepted Answer

Only if the motherboard uses Socket sWRX8 and supports the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series. Check the motherboard’s CPU support list before buying; a different socket is not compatible.

Question 7

Do I need to buy a separate CPU cooler?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The processor listing indicates that a thermal solution is not included. Choose a cooler compatible with the sWRX8 platform and suitable for the processor’s 280W thermal design power.

Question 8

What kind of work is the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX suited for?

Accepted Answer

It is aimed at high-end workstation workloads that can use many CPU cores, such as professional content creation, engineering, architecture, and data-intensive work. Its 64 cores and 128 threads are likely more than routine office tasks need.

Question 9

What should I check before building a system around the 5995WX?

Accepted Answer

Plan for a compatible sWRX8 motherboard, a separate graphics card because the CPU has no integrated graphics, and cooling and power delivery appropriate for its 280W TDP. Reddit build discussions also highlight that the motherboard and platform are important parts of the cost and compatibility decision.

Question 10

Is the 5995WX a good choice for gaming?

Accepted Answer

It is a workstation CPU, not a gaming-focused choice. Reddit users discuss gaming performance and configuring the system for games, while a YouTube review includes game benchmarks. Consider it for gaming mainly if you also need its many cores for substantial workstation workloads.
