Yes had heat sink and fan.Make sure you have plenty of ram at least 4gb .This cpu is very slow with less ram.

12.04.04 will work, need to install drivers from command line before x session will start.  14.04 is better if not used to command line. it will work first boot and allow installation of current amd drivers from unity.

Yes, Radeon 8240 integrated graphics are built in. Check your motherboard to find out what kind of connections you have available for use (vga, dvi, HDMI, etc).

gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G  motherboard  has pins on board , must have a  flat sided processor, windows 7 64 byte OS. Compaq desktop Presario 5300 , had a AMD  Sempron LE 1300  processor  with pins on old motherboard. Will this AMD Sempron  processor work?

Can this one be overclocked?

Depends upon the motherboard you select. There are many articles on the web regarding the overclocking of AM1 APUs. Because this APU is a very inexpensive part, don't expect to get much overclocking headroom out of it with sedate cooling solutions.

I thought we already had AM1. Are they starting over?

I can understand why you might think that, but no.  AM1 was introduced April of 2014.  AM2 (introduced in 2006 or so) was the successor to Socket 754 and 939.  Intel and AMD both do weird things when it comes to socket nomenclature.  Don't spend too much time worrying about it.

Okay, anyone successful installing OpenBSD on this or any other integrated graphics processor?

I've had FreeBSD 9.3 running on an AMD A4 3400 (Athelon II and Radeon). The system is primarily used to host my NAS, but gets a lot of work as a jail host. The graphics on this chip (A4 3400) are pretty lame, but BSD in console works well.

Hi, is this powerfull enough to run an htpc with full HD movies 1080p, DTSHD sound?
All feature from xbmc?

I did some checking online and multiple sources state that it's good for an HTPC.  If you find that your HTPC performance isn't adequate, virtually any modern graphics card will solve that problem, but I don't think and HTPC will require more than this APU delivers.
