Cons: No video output No automatic overclocking options in UEFI
Overall Review: This is the third Ryzen system that I have put together in the last 2 months. The first one built on an MSI X370 motherboard and Ryzen 1700 cpu, the second built on an Asus B350 motherboard with a Ryzen 1600 and my personal pc which is built on this Asrock X370 taichi with the Ryzen 1600X. I thought long and hard about what I wanted with my own personal motherboard, the other two builds were for family. First of all I wanted a neater build, so the ability to finally get rid of my dedicated sound card was important and this motherboard has one of the best implemented ALC 1220 sound solutions on the market. Sound is subjective though, this is only my opinion. I listen to a lot of music when working and all through Senheisser Momentum headphones. The sound on the other two systems was clearly inferior to my Creative soundcard, even though the MSI was built around the same ALC 1220 chipset. The Taichi motherboard has allowed me to retire my Creative soundcard finally, it is that good. This motherboard also comes with a full suite of wireless options, Bluetooth and 802.11ac and Intel Gigabit LAN, it has good storage options with 10 SATA ports and 2 M2 slots (although only one is full speed). The 1600X at stock boosts to 4.1ghz on a single core, 3.7ghz on 2 cores and 3.6 on all cores, so I am not planning on overclocking it. So why buy a motherboard that is clearly built for overclocking with a 16 phase VRM and premium chokes and mosfets? It provides a smoother power delivery and will run cooler as the load is spread over larger number of mosfets. I did manage quite easily to overclock my 1600X on all 6 cores by increasing the vcore to 1.3875v, set the load line calibration to its lowest setting and raise the SOC to 1.2v. Prime stable on all cores and a load temp of 62C (240 AIO cooler). My Corsair (Hynix) memory was automatically set at correct timings and speed when I used the XMP profile in the UEFI at Cas 16 PC 3200mhz. Something that I was not able to do with either of the other two motherboards, however this is more likely a result of the current state of platform maturity and latest AGESA 1.0.0.6 code implementation. The UEFI takes a little getting used to but I like the ability to download the latest drivers and bios images while in the UEFI and the bios has all the settings I need to set up and overclock my new build including a good manual fan profile for all headers that reminds me of the super fan expert that Asus uses. This is easily the best motherboard I have played with in the last year or two. It look great in black and white and the RGB effects are not completely over the top like some of the other motherboards I have recently played with. It has amazing sound a full suite of wireless and wired options and good storage options. I really can’t think of anything bad to say about this motherboard, so I won’t. 5 eggs.
