Question 1

I just assembled this new motherboard with an AMD 5-3600X CPU, and it started to run.  The first LED (near the on  board "power button") went amber for several seconds, then off.  Then the second LED went red for several seconds, then off.  The third LED went bright white and remained on.  The last LED sometimes comes on green, but usually goes off in a few seconds.  There is never any video to the monitor.

I am using an adapter cable that connects to the display port on the motherboard, and is connected to the DVI connector on the rear of the display monitor.

I also tried another cable that connects from the MOBO HDMI port to the monitor DVI connector.  The result is the same - no video.

This looks like it is telling me video is not being output.  Is this correct?  How do I troubleshoot this?  Do I have a faulty MOBO?

I have built about 6 computers from part assemblies in the last 17-18 years, and have never had a problem before.  Have I done something stupid?  The cables mentioned are new, and are quality brands.  Are the cables simply not intended for this use.

PS:  I tried connecting the cable to a known good monitor, using the DVI connector, and no  video there either.

The AMD X570 motherboards can only use the onboard video connector if there is an AMD graphics enabled CPU, like the 3400G or the 2400G.  A CPU with a "G" on the end.  Your 3600X CPU requires a separate graphics card to be installed, then the monitor connector connected to the graphics card.
With the current setup, there is no video going to the monitor.

Question 2

Will I be able to load windows 10 on this with a USB 3 Flash drive or will I have to buy 10 on a disk?

Use the Media Creation Tool from Windows to create a bootable USB. Install will be very quick and you’ll be rolling in no time.

Question 3

my Bios is indicating my ram is 21333 mhz however it is actually 3600, seems odd,  the ram is on the motherboard list of approved ram.  Any ideas?

1st thing im assuming you meant 2133 mhz and not 21333, as otherwise i would have no clue what the issue could be. If my assumption is correct the following should work,

In bios if you go into advanced mode (f7 by default) and into the Ai Tweaker tweaker, there will be a dropdown for Performance Enhancement. In the dropdown select the setting called D.O.C.P. It should update the Memory Frequency dropdown to D.O.C.P 3600, if not you should be able to select that from the dropdown.

Question 4

Does this board support ryzen 1st generation? The advertising says it works with 1st generation ryzen; however I thought that x570 does not support 1st gen ryzen? I plan on using a Ryzen 5 1600 AF, if that helps!

Honestly, that would not be a good option as you would be throwing good money at a bad option if it worked at all. This board's primary design is all about PCIE 4.0. When you match levels of engineering together you get mathematically predictable results. If you are set on using that CPU the best option would be to use a board that is technically matched to it by design. You will not get any gain by using that cpu on this board and in fact it may not go well at all. Your best results would be to use a board that was designed for a 1st gen cpu. The thing is, the only way you will get the numbers this board is capable of is to use one of the PCIE 4.0 proven cpus. A lot of things "might" work but is it really worth the energy, frustration and money lost to find out? Personally I wouldn't waste the effort or money on a 1st gen build or sata based storage at this point. We are so far beyond that now.

Question 5

Does this have the ability to update BIOS with an USB flash drive? I want to get this with one of the new ryzen 5000 CPUs but I don't have an older AMD CPU to boot it for BIOS update that way.

Typically MotherBoards come with BIOS that is reasonably up to date, I can't speak to this one.
You can't boot to POST without a processor and RAM (and power supply). You need to boot at least to the POST to update the BIOS. So if your processor won't boot on the old BIOS then you can't update it. If it will boot on the old BIOS then you can (by USB I am sure would work).

Question 6

Will this motherboard work with Linux operating system?

Yes, works fine with Linux. But: some versions of Linux will hang on boot because systemd is calling the RdRand instruction, which is buggy in the current firmware release for Ryzen 3000 series CPU (but not 2000 or older). Later versions of systemd have a work-around installed, but some iso images don't have the patch. Ubuntu 19.04 iso won't boot, but installing Ubuntu 18.04 and then upgrading to 19.04 worked fine for me. A BIOS firmware patch to fix the issue is in process and expected in another 3-4 weeks. Other than that I haven't had any Linux related problems. Good motherboard, particularly for a brand new CPU/chipset.

Question 7

How loud is the chipset fan?  Other than lacking a CMOS reset button, this is the only gripe I've come across.  This unit will be my main development platform, and I always emphasize a quiet build.

I'm using this board in a case with 3600X, air cooling, five 140mm case fans, and and RTX 2080. Fan noise is simply not an issue; after some careful tuning the machine is silent 99% of the time. The only way I can hear the fan noise is to run a stress test (prime95 can rev the system up to jet engine loudness) or stick my head inside the case. I've been working from home for the last three months and haven't noticed any increased noise during java/scala compilation. I'm very happy with the board and have no problems with noise from the chipset fan.

What kind of optical disk drives are compatible with this motherboard?

I would think any optical drive that uses a sata connection would be compatible. Unless it was made 5 or more years ago it shouldn't be a problem.

Which power supply is recommended??

Personally I would say the Corsair RM series but that's my opinion. When I build PCs for my friends I've also used EVGA, Thermaltake, and Raidmax. Most importantly is to make sure that you have more than enough power for your build. It's always better to have more than not enough.

Can this motherboard fit in a older 
atx case?

It's an ATX form factor, so it certainly should. I installed it in a Corsair Carbide 200R which is several years old and it fit just fine. You should note that the I/O shield is built on to the motherboard, so you have to remove the old shield from your older case. It is a great improvement. I've had no problems with the MB and Asus has put up several BIOS updates for it.
