A dud. 7/20/2020 1:33:34 PM

Pros: Easy to install. (as motherboards go)

Cons: pretty much everything else.

Overall Review: I bought this motherboard as a good replacement for my previous one that bit the dust. Installing the motherboard was easy and booted up fine.. up until you tried to log in and it would immediately blue screen... every time.
I went through every possible means of troubleshooting available to me before deeming it was the board itself but just to be sure I even went to two shops to see if they could fix what I couldn't.

they got the same conclusion. mother board was dead on arrival.

couldn't even send the darn thing back for a replacement or refund because newegg deemed it so and took their sweet time sending me back my dud of a motherboard so I can't return the stupid thing anymore.

The board itself is probably good but I wouldn't know. if you're gonna buy it though, buy it somewhere else.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Joel V.,

I'm sorry to hear that you had persistent BSOD issues with this motherboard. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing and inspections. What you've experienced was not intentional or representative of our brand. What BSOD error code did you see? When you say logging in, do you mean the Windows login? Have you tried reinstalling Windows and/or using a different boot drive? If the board is truly at fault, we would be happy to repair it in warranty for you. Please reach out to me at cl-lane@asus.com and include case #N200765863 in your email for reference. I'd like to help you troubleshoot this in more detail.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best regards,
Lane

Easy install. Easy BIOS initial settings. 4/18/2020 6:57:41 PM

Pros: Installation in the case as simple, cpu, ram, and m2 sdd all installed simply. ASUS BIOS came with the latest version so no upgrade was required. M2 slot worked perfectly.

Cons: Not on-board wifi, but I choose the for the spdif port on the main board rear panel.

Overall Review: One of the easiest installation and setups if have done in 15 years.

I only take advice from Lyle. Don't listen to Kyle. 3/17/2020 3:28:52 PM

Pros: Price... Thanks for also NOT shoving a useless WiFi adapter onto the rear I/O!

Cons: Not even 1 header for the new USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C 20-pin standard. The rear USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports are Type A, not Type-C. I would have preferred a header to use my own front panel with Type-C. That is all, no complaints really.

Overall Review: It does what I need it to do, and it does those things very well. 10/10, would wife.

Solid Motherboard and easy to Install 3/13/2020 12:06:57 PM

Pros: I needed to update my five year old workstation and stayed with the TUF Motherboard series. This replaced the old Sabertooth Z97. Fortunately, ASUS continues to use the Q Connector that makes installing the front panel switches easily (a decided plus for my 72 year old hands). Every thing installed smoothly with the exception of the RAM. I ordered the RAM separately and impatiently installed the MoBo in the case without putting the RAM in first. I couldn't get enough pressure on the RAM slots so the memory sticks would not seat. I got a nice RAM warning light when I tried to boot.

After fixing the problem brought about by user error, the new build booted right up. The fan adjustment in BIOS was easy as can be. I use this in a photo editing and office PC and silence is critical. It's in a Fractal Design Define R6 and there is no noise to be heard. This is the fourth ASUS ATX board I've used and never had a problem.

Cons: No cons at all other than it has RGB features which I don't need. I don't have a windowed case and think RGB is just a gimmick.

Overall Review: Solid 5 Egg MoBo, well done ASUS

Not What I Expected 12/14/2019 3:59:11 PM

Pros: The board mostly works as advertised for Windows 10, albeit the driver installation is a bit kloogie. It will take a bit to get drivers installed as the supplied AI installer app they force you to use won't work correctly out of the box, and you'll be forced to download their support disk to get one that will. But, it is possible to set this motherboard up on Windows 10 (eventually, given some effort), and it seems to run acceptably.

Cons: The board doesn't identify a GPU installed in its PCIe slot correctly for either Windows 10 or 7, and the documentation available online and included in the box is generally worthless. You can work around it by fiddling with the BIOS/UEFI settings, but the documentation is unhelpful, almost to the point ASUS tried to obfuscate their meanings in their BIOS utility. I needed this board to work for Windows 7, and while the initial ASUS documentation on this board indicated it would, it has been updated to state Windows 7 is not supported. Windows 10 isn't much better; the AI installer app they provide generally doesn't work, and you will end up downloading the support disk to get your windows 10 install setup.

I can definitively say ASUS has done their best to ensure you can't install Windows 7 on this motherboard (given their full endorsement of Microsoft's ploy to deny Windows 7 OS drivers to anyone), but it is possible despite their efforts to thwart users. The first hurtle will be getting drivers, which they specifically did *not* provide a disk for, but are available if you hunt around.

Overall Review: I have been using ASUS motherboards for 15-20 years, and I have never had cause to doubt their dedication to their craft; not every one of the hundreds of boards I purchased was perfect, but it was obvious they made an effort to provide the best in hardware and driver support, and their installation/setup was fairly straight forward. This motherboard is a complete deviation from that stance; the drivers are substandard (or non-existent for Windows 7), the documentation and direction apparently has Microsoft as both editor and project leader now, and ASUS appears to have actively taken steps to try to prevent users from taking advantage of this board to its fullest extent.

This motherboard is a complete disappointment; I am unhappy ASUS has apparently lowered their standards with regards to their hardware, their drivers, and their overall support. And to the marketing person who will undoubtedly respond to this review for damage control, what you do is *not* support - its public relations. People who purchase ASUS products need their vendor to provide them with the tools they need to make use of their purchase, regardless of what Microsoft may be telling you to do or say, and your acquiescence of your responsibilities in this is not a good sign for your market placement: take that back to your team and tell them to fix it.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Brett W.,

I'm sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with the lack of Windows 7 driver support. I can certainly understand how frustrating that must be. It sounds like you have gotten your machine up and running, but I will forward your feedback to the product team for review. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at cl-lane@asus.com and include case #N191262879 for reference.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!
