No, this is a dock for a Lenovo laptop.  It is very specific to a certain set of Lenovo laptops and WILL NOT WORK with any other type including Dell laptops.

i need to make sure that this dock has an input jack for my external speakers.  Please advise?

I don't use external speakers.  I see one small hole that might be for speakers.  Size of an earphone jack. Product write-up from lenovo website says there is  1x Stereo/Mic Combo Audio Port so that is probably it.  See below.  Don't know if that is what you are looking for:

Will this work with the Lenovo w540?

The 170w version "officially" supports the w540. The 90w version may not provide enough power or could be slow to charge the laptop when docked.

Yes, it comes with its own power adapter and eliminates the need for your laptop to be connected to anything other than the docking station.

I need a docking station that can support 3 monitors. How many monitors can be connected to this docking station?

There are 3 ports for monitors but I think only 2 are supported by the dock. I had one dock stop working fyi, power port issue. I do think you can get 3 monitors working by hooking up two on the dock and one into the laptop's display port.

Can this dock be vertically mounted? Will it secure and "hold on" to a laptop? I have limited desk space and have been "hanging" my HP off the side of the desk at work for years.

It may hold but I would not consider it a "secure" hold. Avoid vertical mounting this dock if your laptop is valuable to you.

The only audio output is for stereo speakers, no mike.
