Does it have it's own power chord, or do you have to use the power chord that came with the laptop?

It comes with a power adapter and USB cable. Keep in mind that you must use a power adapter that has the square plug. I tried to re-use my old 90w adapter with the round plug and dongle to convert the round plug to square and it did not work. The laptop works fine with the dongle though.

Does it have a power button to turn on the computer?

If you are using this with the newer Carbon/Yoga laptops, you can change a setting in the BIOS to "Power on when AC Connected". You can then set your Windows power option to "When I close the lid (plugged in): Do Nothing".  From there, the laptop will automatically power on as soon as you plug in the AC power to it, and you won't have to open the lid.

You can also keep it plugged in all the time and instead connect your AC adapter to a surge protector that has an ON/OFF button and use that to power the laptop on and off. Just beware that if you connect the power for the USB dock to the power strip, when you turn the power strip on the USB dock does NOT automatically turn itself on. You need to put the power button.

How many external monitors will this support from a laptop?

Depends on the laptop as it is the video card in the laptop that drives the monitors.  Most laptops will support the laptop screen and two monitors but not all.

Question 5

The reason I want to buy this is because there is a problem with the ribbon in my laptop, will this allow me to use my laptop basically as a tower? I will connect a new monitor, keyboard & mouse.

Yes, you can connect two additional monitors including whatever can be hooked directly to the computer.  I'm not even using it with the laptop I originally bought it for anymore.  It's connected to a tower that I have four monitors attached to.  It uses USB 3.0 and a graphics driver that you download/install to drive the other other two monitors, hardwired network and up to six other USB 2.0 or lower devices.

It's about 3X5 and one inch thick.  It's about half the size of an external hard drive.

Where is this compatibility list? Does this let me use my Thinkpad T440 with 2 extra monitors?

I believe i pulled the list from Lenovo web site, but im pretty sure that as long as you have USB3 on the laptop this device should work.. and it have hdmi and display port built in so it should work!

Will this work with a Lenovo E550?

This is the USB dock and will work with any PC that supports USB 3.0. You do not need any of the special Lenovo connectors.

I am using it with an old Dell workstation to power a 3440x1440 screen with no problem whatsoever.
