It connects to my Dell laptop via USB port.

This Hub has 2 required cords to use it - one is electrical to power the device the other is USB cable to attach to your laptop to use the device.

Sorry for the delay in response.  For my experience only, I didn't need to install the software.  I too am running Lenovo T410, so that may help.  I have it configured that i can run dual monitors, a little tricky at first but works like a charm at this point.  I think this is a good unit if you are looking for a universal dock.

Does this charge your laptop while connected?

It does not charge when connected, I was hopeful that it would also and be able to have one less cord on my desk.  Otherwise I am very happy with this product so far.

Hi,
Can we download the drivers online? I am looking for a docking station for a Dell XPS 18 all in one computer in order to add a second screen. Would this work with this equipment?

Mine came with a CD that contained the drivers. Although if memory serves you can also download them online, you may want to double check me on that though.

as far as if I'd recommend this item, that depends on what you plan to do with your computer.  I originally bought this item so that I could easily connect my laptop to a desktop monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, ect. and not have to deal with a bunch of wires every time i took my laptop with me.

for general uses -- word processing, internet browsing, etc. -- I had no problems.

When I was gaming however, I had a really choppy frame rate.
On turn-based games like Civ5 it was merely an annoyance. But on RTS games and MOBA's where swift reactions are essential it was a severe hindrance.

I never tried playing movies on it so I don't know if it will have the same frame rate issue with that or not.

Is this docking station compatible with Acer Aspire E5-571-5552 Notebook ?  I see one customer couldn't get the video port to work on his computer.

I think that is probably just a driver issue. This is compatible on windows 7 and 8 as far as I can tell. So far it works pretty good, except I was expecting it to power my laptop and it has not done that.

Your computer should not matter, as long as you have windows and your laptop has a USB port.

Yes. (Technically, this is true for any device.) This device requires software beyond standard USB drivers, however. Luckily, all of the drivers for its supported platforms come with the device, plus you can download updates and patches from the manufacturer's website.

Yes, you can use the VGA and 1 of the digital outputs at the same time. That's the only way to use two monitors with these. The digital outputs won't both work at the same time.

I only see 3 usb 3.0 connectors on docking station one of which I am assuming goes to the laptop where is the other usb 3.0 - I thought the specs said there were 3 usb 3.0 inputs. I only see a total of 3?

there are 2 on the back and one on the side. there is a separate cable that attaches the docking station to the laptop which is not counted in the three usb ports
