WD Elements Desktop 640GB USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Drive WDE1UBK6400N Black

Pros: This is a very attractive external drive; the best I've seen in a while. I was about to get the white one and I instantly canceled that order to get the black one. This just looks sleek sitting on my desk. You get 595GB after format which I was aware I would get. There is a formula that you can use to figure out how much you space you’d get after format. I, however, figured out that the answer always equals 93% of total space for these types of hard drives; the 3.5” and 2.5” platter HDs. This means that you simply multiply .93 by total space of HD, in this case 640GB x .93 = 595GB. Trust me, this will always work. A 500GB HD, for example, will yield 500 x .93 = 465GB usable space. Just a little lesson for noobs who’ll give this HD a low rating because of their lack of knowledge but will most likely claim “high” tech knowledge when they write their review.

Cons: None. I've transfered a little over 220GB worth of files to back up and the drive runs pretty cool.

Overall Review: Get this HD, it is very nice perormance wise and looks wise.

Pros: Works great right out of the box. 640 GB storage for an external drive is super. Not as fast as my internal SATA drives but certainly exceeded my expectations.

Cons: None. The cords hanging out were expected and you get used to it..

Overall Review: Terrific price and fast shipping by Newegg, thanx. I use this drive to tranfer dvr-ms TV files from my computer to my wifes machine. I just plug it into her machine and she watches recorded TV directly from this drive using WMP.

Pros: I bought this for my wife to back up her documents and photos for her business from her shop desktop to protect them and to put them on a portable drive she could take with her laptop when she needed to meet customers outside of her shop. It works like a charm!! It was instantly detected by both computers downloading the files to the drive was easy, and the laptop has no problem accessing the data. On top of that it looks as though you could drag this behind a truck and not damage it, so if looks are anything, this thing is tough!

Cons: It is not really a con, but if you are moving a ton of data over at one time, pack a lunch because you will be there a while.

Pros: Newegg service & shipping, bar none. HD booted right up and was in service within 10 minutes. Quiet & cool, this baby.

Cons: Power Supply failed, contacted WD and they answered on 1st ring, said they'd had numerous calls about this problem and said they'd ship a new PS right away. have not rec'd it yet, but the call was made only three days ago.

Overall Review: Get it, it's a great HD for the $.

Pros: Ummm... I submitted this order on the afternoon of April 15th, I received the part April 16th w/o the expedite service and free shipping offered - Newegg does it again, drops my jaw with each order I make. As far as the drive, it's a great drive for the price.

Cons: My bank account balance because of newegg.

Pros: Fantastic size, weight, sound, etc. Great drive for being discreet - some external setups have lights, fans, sounds, etc. This drive gets the job done and looks very sleek while doing it! The rubber/silicone edges on the corners provide great vibration resistance as well as slip resistance. The design is a nice black with good ports on the back side. Case cooling is fine so that it does not get hot at all. I have an external Thermaltake enclosure that is also externally powered and I would say that gets almost twice as hot as this WD drive. It's WD so you know it's nice and gonna last you a while

Cons: Externally powered, but what can you expect. Most of the good external hdd's nowadays are externally powered. Fingertips leave some marks on the case. I would consider myself with average sweat and things like that on my hands, and I've only had the drive for 1-2 days and I can see some fingerprints that are probably not coming off...

Overall Review: Came formatted FAT32! Didn't know that and starting putting data on it...gotta erase and reformat first! Easy to reformatt though. Would have been nice to have a eSATA option as well, but I knew it didn't have one while purchasing so that's not really a con.

Pros: Excellent space to price ratio. Whisper quiet and decently fast transfer speed. Plug in USB and comp/HDD does the rest. Transferred entire C: drive in about 2 1/2 hours.

Cons: when transferring files, if any of them are already in use the transfer will not skip that file and continure, it will completely cancel transfer. Xfer in safe mode to avoid those issues though, so not really a con, just more of a heads up.

Overall Review: Does not heat up, and is not loud at all. USB cord and power cord a not very long, but long enough to get the job done. Overall this is a really good product by a great manufacturer.

Pros: Plugged it in and everything worked as expected. Transfers files as fast as you would expect USB 2.0 to transfer with no hassle. Doesn't have a fan in it so it is relatively quiet as well. Heat is nothing to be concerned about either as mine gets at best warm to the touch. I also like the styling of it.

Cons: No complaints here. I guess the drive makes a little bit of noise while transferring files, but that is too be expected.
