Required to run extra cameras on some Synology models. Worked just fine to add a third camera to my DS116. UPDATE June 25 2017: Synology added HTML5 streaming and different stream profiles to work better on mobile and other clients on low-bandwidth connections.
Affordable. And works very well
Easy to upgrade memory took sodimm ddr4 3200 16 gig. Qnap went to soldered on memory on new machines suppossedly due to a ram shortage so now you can not upgrade their ram so this was a HUGE no no for me. I was a Qnap lover, but a friend has a older version of this and I thought i'd give em a try. Software looks almost identical to a Qnap so was easy for me to get in and go. 2x2.5 gb networking. it does transfer very quickly. 4X Gen 3 m.2 (NOTE THESE GET HOT). I used heat sinks for all 4 and have had zero problems. It's worth a few bucks to toss heat sinks on em. if your only going to cache boost with em get small cheapies they run much cooler. Took a few tries to get the setup I wanted with my raid and SSD caching. This was a neck and neck with Qnap ts464. its cheaper and does the same stuff, but you can upgrade the ram. I have both this and the Qnap ts464 this is my favorite. This thing for Plex is a beast! transcodes multiple streams like a champ.
Easy setup
Happy to have 6 gb total all working ; didnt want to take a risk to go above 6 gb that isnt on the compatibility list
Android apps make it easy to use as a personal cloud. It is great for uploading photos from phone. Migrated my 2 drives (mirroring) from a older AS5104T 4 drive system without issues
I bought this really just to create some shared storage on our home network. It does a great job; so easy to set up and use...almost fool-proof. The OS is simple, and you can run all sorts of apps on it. I installed 4 drives and was up and running in about an hour. After playing around with it, I found this little NAS could do so much more than just share disk space! The built-in app store is full of neat apps, and easy to install. I installed Plex server on and was surprised how well it did with streaming my media content. It worked great except when it came to live video encoding. So, I decided I needed a little more power, and I traded up and bought the next higher end version Asustor sells. It was easy to swap my drives from this box to the new one. I didn't lose anything, and the new box was almost instantly running since it got the configuration on the swapped drives. Newegg handled the return flawlessly and I'm really happy with the purchase.
- Rackmount - Minimal dept (works with shallow racks) - Good cooling - Possibility of 2 PSU - Possibility of extra disks units *. - SSH is available for advanced system admin**. *Read well on Synology website if you are planning to use it. ** DSM is NOT a regular linux release, so make SURE you know what you are doing. Easy to install.
The software is awesome. VERY comparable to higher-end Axis software and others on that level. Easy to use and like the multiple simultaneous playback.
Reasonable speed,quiet,has a on/off switch on it
Easy setup, affordable, expandable storage capacity. Has many features.
This QNAP runs quickly and quietly. The VM is Microsoft Server 2019, and it is very fast. I have it configured to boot off of a RAID-1 SSD drive array, and the AMD Ryzen processor is very fast. Adding RAM and the SSD drives was EASY. Very nice design on the case, easy access 3 screws and that was it. I added five 16-TB drives in RAID-5, and it is used as a Veeam Offsite Repository target server.
Decent price for the hardware, sleek design, upgradable RAM, software updates are frequent, drive bays are solid, can control fan speed for the CPU
I needed a network drive to share files and programs on the network. Very affordable and really easy to install. All computers have access.
