Pros: - No setup, I just plug them, they paired within seconds. - Stable connection over 4 weeks of use - Good connectivity to a remote ethernet switch connecting a gaming console, IP CAM, Bluray player, TV... all worked fine without issue and replaced the CAT5 cable running to my main switch with the XAVB5101 -Good for browsing the internet or watching streaming videos - Well written documentation - Small size vs. other products - I've used several similar products and consider the XAVB5101 features among the best, granted there's not a lot for this type of produce
Cons: - The XAVB5101 file transfer speed to a NAS device averaged 21 MB/s vs. 39 MB/s over CAT 5 directly connected to the switch. - Too slow for bulk file transfers within you local network - Lack of pass-through socket
Overall Review: Loss of one star due to lower than expected throughput for local network file transfers
Pros: Installed in a Synology DS212j Good price point Ran a full format overnight without issue. I've had the drive in use for over a month now and am satisfied enough to order a second drive for a RAID1 configuration. Quite Cool to the touch during bench mark testing I ran several disk benchmark utilities against the drive, Iometer, ATTO Disk Benchmark, CrystalDiskMark...Overall I was pleased with the test results for this drive type. I'll leave it at that, no need to dump the test stats I prefer real life data usage over benchmark results. * FileSync copy rate of 38MB/s to 46MB/s
Cons: Not really a con but for a drive this size I recommend running it in a RAID configuration or have a backup of the data.
Overall Review: Perfect for my NAS / media server
