im looking for a good size hard drive to store anime on i got 5 750gb externals and a 500gb in ternal and they are all full. will this fit into a destop and work without a raid?

Yes, this would be a perfect drive for archive storage and doesn't need to be part of a RAID. It will fit in any desktop as long as you have an open bay and SATA port available.

Question 3

I bought 2 of these and the Seagate 4 drive NAS box. It automatically formatted the drive with FAT32- is it possible to make it use NTFS formatting? I am trying to replace a DLink unit with 2 - 2TB drives and it is taking an eternity to copy the files.

I saw no options - followed info with NAS enclosure - went to seagate web page referered to-- it took over and formatted the twoSeagate 4TB NasAS drives adn set it up : FAT32/ simple RAID-- Yet I saw article that simple RAID needed 3 drives-- Feel I am missing pieces of the puzzle-- though I though tusiing 2 Seagate NAS drives in their Enclosure would have been fairlyh smooth sailing-- no wonder I hesitate to change anything anymore - -- It all turns into a can of worms.  I spent so much effort copying from old NAS, that I hate to take them out and format them in a dock, and I believe in setting up the set up page dictated that it would format the drives to set up.

Does this SKU come with any connectors (E.g., Sata cable?) I'm separately ordering a QNap TX-651x, I just need to make sure that I can plug them in.

This hard drive came as oem product.sealed in esd nylon.
No connector.
Usually hd coming only with screws.

I just bought a Rampage IV Black edition also the Processor is a i7-4930 Intel I'm putting it in a AZZa Hurrican 2000,What Hard Drive would be the BEST For this gaming system? Would this Seagate 4TB be fine?Thank you.

I own 4 of these drives in a NAS Raid, and would say they are fantastic drives for data -- run extremely reliably, cool temp, and even all four of them are exceptionally quiet. If you're building a gaming computer, I would highly recommend that you include a Solid State Drive (SSD) to install your games on, as it will distinctly improve load times and read speeds compared to a drive like this. PC Part Picker says this drive is 7200 RPM, but I have my doubts does anyone know the exact RPM?  Or have a source?

THIS IS NOT A 7200 RPM DRIVE! It is a 5900 RPM drive. Edwin is completely wrong and Edward is correct.

The entire 4TB hard drive product line from Seagate - internal and external are all 5900 RPM speed drives. And it seems Seagate is going to great length to cover up this fact. Go to their website and download their product data sheet - it does not disclose spindle speeds.

Looking at purchasing an Areca ARC-5040-U3 direct attach RAID with 8 bays.  These drives specifically note optimal performance in a "1- to 5-bay solution".  Can these be successfully "pushed" to an 8-bay solution, and if not why - speed, vibration, heat, etc.?

These drives run very quiet without excessive vibration or heat.  I can't see any reason why it would be any different with 8 drives as long as there is adequate ventilation to the enclosure.  I have not had any failures of this particular model in my Synology 4-drive unit.

As others have said in their reviews, this drive runs at 5900 rpm.  As a result it doesn't get as hot as a 7200 rpm drive and is well suited for a NAS enclosure.  It is odd that the Newegg specs don't spell that out.  I've been running 5 of these in a Synology NAS for the last 2 years without a single issue.

If you put this in a capable system like  a QNAP, you should be able to use this drive for your backup solution.  Otherwise, you may be limited by your motherboard's HDD size limitations, i.e. 2TB on older MoBo's.
