Finally Got the Speed
Pros: Amazing speed. And that's why I bought this. New build on a ASUS HERO VII and a i74790K. It's so fast, I can't even see the log on screen. Up in less than 10 seconds.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: Traded this from an M.2 card, which turned out to be incompatible with the motherboard. Glad I did. I think I got a better deal with this one.
HERO Device shortfall
Pros: Overall the board is nice. A lot of nice features that warrant the price tag. The BIOS has a lot of things that you can do to customize it for your particular uses.
Cons: Unfortunatly, the SSD category for this board is a little short of Excellent. After several back and forth emails to the techs at ASUS they kept feeding me the corporate line. One tech however came out and said that the SAMSUNG EVO 850 M.2 is not compatible with this board and recommend reading the ROG Device Documents on their support page. No bios updates for Devices since 2013.
Overall Review: If I had to do it over again, I might have started with the add ons and then found a motherboard that supports everything I want. Kind of disappointed with the outcome, but learned a bunch from trying to figure out why something doesn't work as advertised.
Pros: -Very lightweight -Easy to setup -Sound quality is pretty good. -The price was right too.
Cons: -A little bit tight on my head, but is okay
Overall Review: I would recommend these as a budget buy. They do exactly as I expected. Since I've only had these a couple of weeks, we'll see how they perform over the next few months.
Lots of storage
Pros: I got this when it was on sale for 169.00. Lots of storage as I have all of my movies in digital format now. I have a lot of 4k movies in mkv format 10bit x265. Hooked it up to my ASUS router and streamed it to my Samsung TVs.
Cons: Since I am streaming movies from my router, I found that the hard drive get's very hot. Up around 45 C. I got concerned. So I "shucked" the case and put it into a Rosewill Armer RX304-APU3-35B which has a 80mm fan and the best part, a digital readout of the HD temperature. With this combination, I am now running at 33-35 C. a much safer temperature. Bad design flaw for WD MyBook.
Overall Review: So far everything is Aces. I am doing what I want, with a very good hard drive.
Pros: Style, ease of installation, performance is good. This was so cool, because it attaches to my metal frame PC desk. I bought 2, one for each PC on both sides of my desk. The supplied cord is long enough to reach where I attached the hubs. Plus the elegant styling matches my desk too.
Cons: The only thing I had a problem with was the shipping was too slow. It was coming from Hong Kong, but still a very long time. NewEgg should get this item as part of their supply inventory, to help alleviate the shipping issue. This will sell if given the right promotions.
Overall Review: Offer a longer USB cable. Say about 4 feet. The price is good 15-17 dollars is about as far as I would go with this.
Cheap stuff....inexpensive too!
Pros: Well constructed.
Cons: Well constructed, however because of it's small size, it lacks a couple of things. Most computer cases now-a-days don't have a 3.5" drive bay, they're all 5.25, so this should have been built with that in mind. It is restricted to 7mm depth on the 2.5" hard drives. The specification page should have included the fact that it will only accommodate the 7mm drives.
Overall Review: If you plan to use this as a stand alone, get a usb 3.0 to sata cable adapter and that way you don't have to mount inside your pc or even use it with your laptop. I have other iStar products that work and mount beautifully. This one I bought because it was only 5.00 on sale.
So, I bought 2 of these, they were on sale cheap. I always look for deals on things I know will eventually go bad. These were as advertised. They are a bit light and small. I think designed for a womans hand and a laptop. I would use it in a pinch, but not on a daily basis. I like a little weight to my mice. And the ones I have currently are working okay for now.
Great little piece of hardware
I have a bunch of 2.5" hard drives that I'm using to backup data to. This is very easy to slip a new hard drive into and plug into a usb port. Very handy. Would recommend if you want to do backups, or store photos, music to it too.
This was a sale item that I just had to have. You never know when you'll need something like these 2.5" drive cage. I have two of these @ $5.00 a piece. Haven't installed them yet, still trying figure that part out now. I will need a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter to install it to my Cooler Master Storm Trooper case.
