Slick little USB3 SSD drive!

SAMSUNG T3 Portable 1TB USB 3.1 External Solid State Drive
SAMSUNG T3 Portable 1TB USB 3.1 External Solid State Drive

Pros: This drive will save you tons of grief on the road as it is everything you want tiny, huge, secure and blazing fast. I got this drive to store photos and video on my upcoming month long vacation and boy did it not disappoint. The build quality is excellent - full metal housing, check. USB3 speeds are great - there's no point in having 1TB if you have to transfer at 12mb/s (USB2) How fast is it? Transferring 19.8Gbs of photos and video to my Samsung 850 Evo SSD only took 1m23s! (video transferred at 270mb/s while photos took 150mb/s) Transferring to my slower Samsung F3 (platter data drive) was much slower 50mb/s and 23mb/s over USB3 The kit is just 2 pieces a USB3- C cable with velcro wrap and the drive. This thing survived planes, trains, taxis, took-tooks AND Sri Lankan humidity (which during the monsoon this year was waaaaay above 100%) The security that is included with the drive works very well and has a slick - non invasive interface that was quick to setup and requires just a prompt each time you want to access your files. The installation/security files are included on the drive.

Cons: The price does sting a bit at $300+ for 1TB of USB drive but the functionality and reliability are worth it. The drive does take a touch longer to become available on newly connected devices compared to devices you normally connect to (10-15s longer).

Overall Review: This drive has is all, size, storage, simplicity and encryption in a bullet-proof package. Samsung really nailed it on this one. I was a little weary about storing all of my photos and video from my entire vacation on just one drive but this thing held up and function as expected problem-free. The initial warning that the encryption software gives you is a touch worrying as losing your password will essentially bork your drive and require Samsung's involvement to get it back online. If you are a content producer on the go and need a solid storage solution that will get you there and back again then this is your drive.

The hipsters Wifi Router

Google Wi-Fi Router by TP-Link - OnHub AC1900 (Managed by Google Wi-Fi APP)
Google Wi-Fi Router by TP-Link - OnHub AC1900 (Managed by Google Wi-Fi APP)

Pros: Perfect for the not-so-tech-savy hipster that mainly has wifi devices Setup was super simple - plug in the unit, download the app, put phone near router "beep beep bo beep" and the wifi is configured. Looks pretty sweet - the pulsing LED ring on top is kind of neat too Signal and speed compared to most $200 AC routers is good to decent Its looks let you mount this piece in your living room or other social area without looking ugly This last benefit makes effectively adding strong wifi to the areas you spend the most time in (instead of having your ugly 10 pronged Wifi router in your office or basement) Has 1x gigabit ethernet port and 1x USB 3.0 (see cons) 802.15.4 wifi and Weave ready which will open up a host of opportunities down the road (think smart home communications- ie controls dishwasher, thermostat, lighting...etc)

Cons: What does the USB 3.0 do? I have no idea... because there are no instructions. There are no instructions except the downloadable app. What if you want to plug in more than one computer...? You need a switch. (no one who buys this will know what or how to set up a switch) It is smart bluetooth, weave, 802.15.4 ready, but not yet.

Overall Review: This really a product for the future and not so much the right now. The generation of folks with actual computers and light switches will not so much benefit from this device over any other AC wifi router currently available. The total nerded-out futurist though will have a field day wifing up their place with cool gadgets and controls for their own personal cloud/home. In my view, for the money right now though your hard earned cash would be better spent on a top of the line feature rich AC wifi router in all but a few circumstances.

Plug n Play DDR5, that's it

Crucial 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 4800 (PC5 38400) Desktop Memory Model CT2K16G48C40U5
Crucial 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 4800 (PC5 38400) Desktop Memory Model CT2K16G48C40U5

Pros: - works right out of the box and was detected by my B650 motherboard very quickly (this does not always happen) - single sided ram without heatsinks makes it very easy to install no matter what CPU cooler or board layout you are working with. - Price is modest but not bargain for DDR5 - 4800Mhz is OK, OC'ed to 5000Mhz with a bit of fiddling but I don't think that will result in much performance - Subtle black DIMMS go well with almost any PC build

Cons: - no RGB, no heatsinks, no excitement what so ever. - unlocking extra speed took a lot of effort and ultimately did not result in enough stability to make it worth while. - the DDR5 market right now sucks and that makes this ram "value" oriented at $170 per 2x16 kit.

Overall Review: - You can roll with this ram, it works as expected and does not have any bells and whistles associated with it. There is no EXPO or XMP but the timing values are available and showed up for my B650 build without issue. I see no clear head room for overclocking. This kit is as vanilla as you can get these days. Vanilla is good though.

Working great for the last 18 months

AUTO-VOX Cam 6 Rearview Backup Camera Universal License Plate Reverse Parking System of 170 ° Wide View Angle for Truck & RV with Waterproof CMOS HD 480TVL For RCA Rearview Mirror Monitor Headunits
AUTO-VOX Cam 6 Rearview Backup Camera Universal License Plate Reverse Parking System of 170 ° Wide View Angle for Truck & RV with Waterproof CMOS HD 480TVL For RCA Rearview Mirror Monitor Headunits

Pros: Very simple install with plenty of cable length to finds its way to the bumper of my F150. Image quality is OEM/factory quality and does very well in lower light conditions. All required hardware was included in the kit and instructions were just what I needed to get the job done on the first try. The camera pops up on my aftermarket Pioneer head unit with 1s delay and accurately portrays the surroundings.

Cons: I think that the only recommended HW that could be uncluded to make teh install smoother would be some small screw in loops to tack on to the body of the vehicle to act as tiedown points. No other criticisms available. The camera body faded from black to a copper color, but this is pretty common for anodized aluminum dyes- surface integrity is still unblemished.

Overall Review: This really is a no brainer solution for adding or replacing rear view camera capabilities to your vehicle. All the required components and instructions are included. The camera image quality is great and the camera angle is adjustable to suit your viewing preferences. Great value!

Great option if you need a Roku or have privacy/sound concerns

Roku Ultra | Streaming Media Player 4K/HD/HDR with Premium JBL Headphones 2019
Roku Ultra | Streaming Media Player 4K/HD/HDR with Premium JBL Headphones 2019

Pros: This devices works just as you would expect from a Roku and has the added benefit of the headphones that attach to the remote. My wife spends many hours caring for our new little one and can get in some TV time without having to have the volume super low and captions enabled, and often can walk down to the kitchen to make a bottle with the remote in her pocket so she can listen to the show. The remote button presses actually register with the device without having to wave the controller around making typing out show names actually possible. The included earbuds are quite good and are universal 3.5mm so do not require any dongles and such.

Cons: The batteries on the remote because they drive the head phones die a little faster than expected. We have also been having a problem with one of our accounts starting with an A dropping our account information requiring us to sign back in often. I am not sure what that is about. Audio and video quality is great and the system is very responsive (not slow). The batteries will last around 1 month (2 AA) so its kind of becoming a situation.

Overall Review: Would very much recommend to new parents or folks needing privacy or with roommates. Performance is excellent compared to our Roku Premiere that we have downstairs and worlds better than our original Roku which all but unusable now.

Like a really good chromebook + a bit more

ASUS VivoBook S15 S512FL Thin and Light Laptop, 15.6" FHD, Intel Core i7-10510U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB PCIe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce MX250 Graphics, FingerPrint, Windows 10 Home, S512FL-NB71, Silver-Metal
ASUS VivoBook S15 S512FL Thin and Light Laptop, 15.6" FHD, Intel Core i7-10510U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB PCIe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce MX250 Graphics, FingerPrint, Windows 10 Home, S512FL-NB71, Silver-Metal

Pros: Nice packaging and size, the weight is not quite ultrabook but is well within the threshold of being ultra portable. The screen bezil is tidy but nothing to shout about though the top bezel does include a very functional webcam (no privacy cover) and microphone that work well. The 4 core (8 thread) CPU is a great compromise of power consumption and performance at 15W and like other have mentioned is very capable for typical tasks. For reference, a similar CPU power just 2 years ago required a 45W CPU power envelope. The keyboard is great with some exceptions, the button press feel is very quite and reliable. MyAsus application offers some really convenient tweaks that let you better manage screen color balance, sharpness AND battery management features that should improve battery health over the life of your laptop (thank you Asus for catching on to what Tesla and others have found). The near-Chromebook functionality comes in part from the fingerprint reader that works quite well, the lid shut/open power ON/OFF dynamics and simple keyboard layout/feel. Do not fear the touchpad, it is excellent in every way.

Cons: The numpad as others have mentioned is a poor compromise in design and is just too narrow (perhaps with more hours on it, my view will change) but I think that the entire keyboard spacing could have better accommodated those num keys by being shifted to the left 1/4". The addition of the num keys and misc over there also makes the hit to Del and +/- the Power key a bit more difficult than necessary. There is no way of knowing if the numlock is ON or OFF (seriously?). The keys light up and have 4 settings from Off to full On (only Off and full On actually are helpful in different light conditions due to the reflections of the screen when dark or the transparency of the keys when light). It just seems like it turns in to a maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe situation more than it needs to be. I would have been happier to see 2 USB-C and 3 USB-A (1x USB3.1, instead of 1 and 3) since it is 2020, but the inclusion of full size HDMI and microSD card slots are welcome. The screen looks great at full brightness but quickly worsens at lower brightness.

Overall Review: This is a great around the house or lightweight work PC and I do not have any reservations for recommending to those of you that "need a new laptop" because your old one is slow/dead/heavy/stopped working. It has plenty to offer and does not have any glaring problems. I likened this PC to a chromebook because of its packaging and feel as well as its great functionality. It will of course probably be a lot more capable running windows. The inclusion of the Nvidia GPU is a bit odd as you will likely get just a bit better performance than the standard Intel GPU, but its there. Don't expect much though, this is not a gamer by any measure. I look forward to enjoying a healthy battery for a long time due to MyAsus charging management.
