Great Refurb Router

NETGEAR WNDR3300-100NAR N300 Wireless Dual Band Router IEEE 802.11n version 2.0 IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11a 5.0 GHz
NETGEAR WNDR3300-100NAR N300 Wireless Dual Band Router IEEE 802.11n version 2.0 IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11a 5.0 GHz

Pros: Great performance with DD-WRT installed. I used the firmware files recommended by the DD-WRT database; however, they are obsolete and according to the dd-wrt forums and one could use the newer firmware that has been posted. Wireless N performance rocks in regards to speed (especially at 5ghz), and wireless G works just fine, even when streaming HD and SD movies over the wireless N network.

Cons: Despite the great performance with dd-wrt, the wireless n at 5ghz has a limited range, as others have stated. It is good enough to reach my living room from my bedroom for watching Netflix via Roku, but the signal strength is roughly 35% according to dd-wrt's firmware website. I have yet to test wirelss G at any decent range, but from my living room it is roughly 4 out of 5 bars in Windows 7 on my laptop.

Overall Review: If you do use dd-wrt, please make sure you follow the instructions by flashing the *.chk firmware first through the manufacturer's website interface, and then flash the *.bin file through the dd-wrt website interface. If you only flash the netgear wndr3300 with just the *.chk dd-wrt file, you will get the dd-wrt interface and setup; however, your nvram (where your configuration is stored) may become corrupted. This is why it is important to flash the *.bin file once the *.chk file has been successfully flashed. I have no problem ordering refurbished products (some have worked better than new). New Egg is the best, I order on Monday (I think) and it was delivered by the next day. New Egg rocks!!!!! I give this router four eggs, because of the range for N being limited, especially within a 700+ sq/ft apartment. Other than that it works fantastic with DD-WRT.

Most Critical Review

Great card reader, except in Windows 8.1

Rosewill RCR-IC002 - 74-in-1 Internal Card Reader with USB 2.0 Ports & Extra Silver Face Plate - Fits 3.5" Drive Bay
Rosewill RCR-IC002 - 74-in-1 Internal Card Reader with USB 2.0 Ports & Extra Silver Face Plate - Fits 3.5" Drive Bay

Pros: I had this reader for several years and it has always worked for me without fail.

Cons: Apparently Window 8.1 has a weird issue where the media reader's drives keep on reporting disk error messages in the Windows event log. It is also causing my mouse to stutter and disrupting normal USB operations. I think this is either an issue with the ASUS USB drivers or the AMD USB drivers. Not sure.

Overall Review: I hope Rosewill can find a fix for this or it going to meet the drawer of old and useless tech toys.

Great RAM

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR

Pros: There is not much to say, other than that this RAM is noticeably faster than my DDR2 RAM from my old box that had died.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: It's G.SKILL and from what I know about this company, is that they always tend to get good reviews. I just hope mine continue this long tradition of theirs in terms of reliability and quality.

Excellent case for an excellent price

Antec GX500 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec GX500 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I bought this case to replace an aged Rosewill case. Needless to say, every time I chose to buy a non-Antec case, I have ended up regretting it. This case is incredibly spacious and the cable management system, though tight, is a nice feature. I also love the fact that it supports 5 120mm fans. It looks awesome and it is quality through and through, something that I have always come to expect from Antec.

Cons: Only one complaint. The 3.5 inch bay cover did not pop off easily as the 5.25 inch bays, which lead to a broken clip that held the cover in place. It's not big deal, as the clip has no function in holding a 3.5 inch media card reader, but it is the only poor design that I could find.

Overall Review: I have no regrets getting this case. It's great for gaming rigs and offered a lot features for it's price. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and will stick with Antec cases from here forward.

Nothing but headaches

Crucial M550 2.5" 256GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT256M550SSD1
Crucial M550 2.5" 256GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT256M550SSD1

Pros: Cheap & fast, plus has RAIN for supposed reliability.

Cons: Where to start: 1. Has compatibility issues with AMD RAID configurations. 2. This model and it's predecessor have issues where it either disconnects or crashes Windows, including having Windows crash upon reboot. 3. Crucial has been aware of this problem since August of 2014 and has done nothing about it. Just this morning I had finished installing g everything and was downloading some files off the net. I left the computer and came back about 30 minutes later, and discovered a black screen with a blinking light. I shook my mouse and pressed some keys thinking my computer just put the display on stand-by; no response. I rebooted by pressing the reset button and Windows would start to load and then hang. Tried using Windows 8.1's startup repair utility with no success. This is the second time I have reinstalled Windows to try to get my system to run reliably with this drive. I have the most up-to-date BIOS, drivers, and Windows patches. This is obviously a known design issue that Crucial fails to acknowledge. I am totally fed up trying to get my system to reliably work with this drive. I am going to get an RMA and send it back to night.

Overall Review: I should have listened to my friend's advice and stick with Intel or Samsung, this drive is garbage. I couldn't believe that Crucial has been aware of this issue and has not issued a firmware update to fix it. I love their RAM, but they permanently lost my business for SSD.

Bought this due to reviews and quality

SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I have a kid on the way and wanted to upgrade my computer while I still have the cash, plus the fact that my old PSU was hitting close to the MBTF of 5 years. I bought this due to it's excellent reviews and the renowned quality of SeaSonic PSUs.

Cons: Nothing so far.

Overall Review: I had bought SeaSonic for my mom's computer that I had built and it works great for her. I think she has had it for at least 3 years or more.
