CM V8

COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD AM3/AM2+/AM2
COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD AM3/AM2+/AM2

Pros: It does a good job cooling the CPU, even when OC'ing, but I'm also only running an E8400. It looks pretty sweet. Lapping was easy, as it came out of the box pretty smooth already.

Cons: The only indication of airflow in the documentation actually suggested the fan was blowing the opposite direction of what it does. Fortunately, I powered it up before assembly and figured that out, otherwise it would have been trying to fight the airflow. In the documentation, it shows it moving air from front to back of case when mounted with wording upside down. This is in fact the opposite of the actual airflow direction. When holding it in front of you, with the words right side up, it will move air from your right to your left.

Overall Review: Would have gotten 5 eggs for sure, but it just can't be shipped with documentation that conflicts with the actual functioning of the unit. Sorry.

COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD AM3/AM2+/AM2

Pros: It works very well. Easy to put together if you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

Cons: People who can't read leave bad reviews.

Overall Review: If you are having trouble getting the screws to thread into the brackets, try rotating the screw the other way LIKE IT SAYS IN THE DIRECTIONS. There's even a picture. Sure, it's not obvious at first that the screws should be tightened in the opposite way of normal, but you'd think a person of average intelligence would figure out that something was amiss after they try all the screws in all the different mounting brackets, and they just can't get it to work. Maybe look at the threads? Or the picture in the directions? Get a monkey to do it for you? LOL. Then, they leave a bad review on a site where, if they would have read the reviews, they would have seen that people have come across it in the past, and made note so others would know better. Unbelievable. If you really can't figure the screw thing out, send your 2k+ worth of parts back to newegg and have someone put your rig together for you so you don't mess up the expensive stuff. Unbelievable

OCZ Special Ops Urban Elite 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3SOU16004GK

Pros: It works at the speed advertised with a mobo that will support it. Does everything it promises to do.

Cons: I can't get over 1700 MHz stable yet?

Overall Review: Using it on a BlackOps 8-8-8-24 at 1.955V. When it first started up, it was at 1333 and not too stable. Once I made the timing adjustments and voltage adjustment, it was ready for system OCing. Sometimes you have to manually tweak settings to get your hardware to work. Do like I did and read up on the hardware and specs, and researching compatibility might help too....

Foxconn BlackOps X48 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard
Foxconn BlackOps X48 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great board, looks awesome, feels like quality, LOTS OF INFO AND GUIDANCE ON THE ONLINE FORUMS (XS SPECIFICALLY). The board is kinda finicky, but if you do your research before buying, and know what you have to do to get up and running with your hardware, it's a breeze. The BIOS is great, and OC'ing is easy, especially being able to store backup BIOS.

Cons: Dog tags and stickers/tattoos? Really?

Overall Review: If you're just looking to slap a rig together, don't want to OC or mess with settings, get something else.

Yay!

Pros: It was free and fun to play.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Comes in a CD sleeve, just the way I like it... Less trash that way. Who ever reads gaming booklets nowadays anyway with all the tutorials games offer once you install???

CM690

Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Roomy for a mid. Extra fan mounts galore. Room for a rad up top once I go H2O.

Cons: Two of the mobo standoff holes were stripped. Had to squeeze with some needle-nose pliers and use a threadmaker. Most people won't want to do that, or won't have the tools. I suppose I could have found nuts for the other side as well.... In any case (no pun intended), I had to take an egg off for this. Maybe I've always just been lucky, but I've never had this problem in the 12 builds I've done before.

Overall Review: Wish I would have known to get 140mm fans instead of 120mm for top exhaust and bottom intake, but that's my fault. Newegg probably could update that on the specs, but I still blame myself. Using two 120x25mm up top, and a CM V8 for the CPU, and you have to be careful they don't touch (especially any wires running from the CPU cooler assembly). It's real close, but if you make sure nothing's touching (duh), then there won't be any problems. Also, use standoffs (or washers or whatever) if intaking air from the bottom of the case, otherwise the mesh will get in the way of the fan blades and make some unsavory sounds.
