Cheap fix for aging laptop.

Crucial 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model CT51264BF160B

Overall Review: I have a laptop running Windows 7. For some software, I was going to be forced to go to Windows 10. I didn’t want to spend for a new PC/laptop or upgrade the existing OS. It was running slow on 7, so I expected it would be worse on 10. First step was to max the laptop’s memory. This did the job for a very reasonable price.

Go with HDD from another maker?

acomdata PureDrive 500GB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive PDHD500USE-72
acomdata PureDrive 500GB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive PDHD500USE-72

Pros: Beautifully crafted. Well constructed. Worked perfectly out of box. No hassle repartitioning into NTFS and FAT32 partitions.

Cons: Just short of 1 year the HDD stopped working. Light flashed blue, red, blue, red. Nothing fixed it. Possible defect in power supply cord because I took the HDD into the office (where I have an identical model for the office) and the HDD started working again with that power cord. I will try and update this review if I learn more.

Overall Review: I got lucky that the HDD failure went away long enough to recover my data before trying to repair/replace the HDD under warranty. Still, even if I get a new HDD, I may be tempted to buy a replacement unit from some other maker to be safe.

Remember to buy a case adapter.

Overall Review: Wanted to upgrade an old PC to SSD. This did the job BUT I forgot to order an adapter so it would fit in the bays used by the PC. Fortunately, I had some high strength Velcro pads which did the job.

Cheap drive that does the job!

Pros: Cheap speed upgrade for older laptops using HDDs.

Cons: Feels very light and is hard to believe it’s sturdy compared to standard HDD, but I had no issues with it.

Simple adapter that works.

Pros: Affordable way to get dual/multi-monitor support. No obvious visual lag or inferior quality for most office and web-surfing applications.

Cons: Not designed for heavy video use (e.g., games), but to be fair, there's not enough juice on the USB port to support that.

Overall Review: If you have a PC/laptop with no external monitor support and don't need to game on it, this gem is a miracle worker. My new work PC had a 255W PSU, insufficient to support a video card with dual-monitor support (thanks Dell). This baby let me regain dual-monitor by using an available USB port, and it's worked flawless. The only "glitch" is that Windows 7 sets the primary monitor based on the order they are plugged in. So, if you unplug your main video cable, you have to reset which monitor is primary...or unplug this and wait for the OS to reset it back to normal.
