Question 1

Im trying to decide between this psu, corsair, or a seasonic and I just dont which one to go with. This evga psu has a lot of good ratings but not from a lot of people. Can someone help me?

Some corsairs have post issues with X79 chipsets so I would be careful when going that rout. This evga unit however is one of the best I ever owned and with my experience with evga, I never had a problem getting tech support when I needed it. This unit has performed above my expectations and I have been one to four cards on my bench rig flawlessly.I run it on an x79 platform with a socket 2011 with extreme level CPU's and double pump liquid coolers with multiple fans and their is still room to upgrade. I never had a voltage issue in over clocks and is extremely stable. I purchased this unit only because the 1200 watt was not available because I wanted the software control with it. This unit does not have the software utility but that is really just a perk and not neccasary. I highly recommend this unit because of its reliability and trust worthy manufacture brand as I always use evga when available.

Question 2

Should I buy an EVGA PSU or Corsair PSU? I'm looking at the Corsair AX1200i PSU VS this one. The EVGA is $100 cheaper but people are saying that Corsair is the way to go etc. I have been hearing good things about this EVGA PSU but I want your honest opinion. All I want is a solid 1000w or more PSU that is reliable and will last me a very long time. BTW I am a serious buyer and price doesn't matter.

Both are good power supplies, however this one is rated very well at Johnny Guru, and is based on a better platform. The cables are also easier to sleeve if you are wanting to go that route. Corsair products are often at a higher price point, but you shouldn't take that as an indication of quality, because some Corsair products are garbage and some are well made. EVGA hasn't been in the PSU market that long and their first outing was a big flop; [nex 1500] so that and Corsair's long standing place in the PSU market would cause many people to play it safe and recc. the Corsair unit over the EVGA. At the end of the day this is an excellent unit, it's rock-solid stable, at a lower price point, and plus a 10 year warranty. It's a no brainer, go EVGA.

Question 3

I'm going to be running 5 hard drives and two optical drives, (plus the usual peripherals) is that possible (connection wise) with this PSU and if so could you possibly tell me what cables I may need?

Well this PS is working fine...I have 4 hard drives and Water cooled system which takes some more power, DVD Writer and many usb powered items.  The cords came with it--did not need all of them.  I looped all my HD with two power feeds, and I still have one open feed.  A GTX 780 video card.  I hope it works well for you.  I have not had any problems also just so you know.  I got a glitch with Microsoft OneDrive which caused the CPU, AMD fx-9100 series  to run at 98% for two days.  The Power-supply held up fine through that glitch--Happy about that!!

sup guys !! can i use these psu whit a i5 3570k and a mobo asrock z77 profesional fatality , r9 280x , 1tb hdd , 16 gb gskill ? i really like this psu .

Sup! I bought one of these a few day ago and so far, so good. I choose this one because it had very good reviews, a 10 year warranty and a nice price. It's a little long so be sure to grab a tape measure and double check that it will fit in your case. I checked against the specs you provided (nice rig, by the way) and it should work well for you. It has the right plugs and sufficient power for what you described above. 
One thing though, I noticed that your Motherboard has 3 PCIe x16 Slots. If you plan to add more hardware you might need something with more wattage. Run the numbers through your favorite online PSU calculator. I like the one at "extreme.outervision" (the free version should suffice) and the one at "Thermaltake". 
Keep in mind that although a well made PSU should be fine working at 80% of it's Max. rated power, most power supplies are at their highest efficiency between 40% and 60%. So it's a good idea to choose one that is double the Max. wattage that most PSU calculators recommend.

Can anyone tell me if this is a reliable, long lasting, and great quality psu? Can someone that owns this psu tell me what there experience with it has been like and there opinion on it?

It has been rock solid for my computer.  Im running a AMD FX-9370 Vishera, ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX motherboard, 16 GB ram, (3) 1 TB hard drives, ` SSD 240 drive, ASUS HD 7970 DirectCU II video card, water cooled system and more.  I drive it hard and no issues.

evga is bliss. Best customer support on the planet. They rma-ed my 3yrs old GTX570. I think it was already out of warranty too.
also I did not register the card when i bought it, but they still rma-ed it. EVGA IS BLISS

Does it matter if the fan is oriented up or down?

Technically you would want the fan to blow out of the case as an exhaust and to prevent heat from the power supply being reintroduced to the system.  However, if your case already has sufficient airflow or does not have an opening for the fan then you will be fine with the fan pointing in the case.  This power supply does not actually run that hot.  I've had mine installed with the fan pointing inward and suffered no heating issues.

I have a mid size cosmos tower and fits beautifully... i bought this 2 years ago and it's worth every penny... i would assume it will fit any mid tower case it's a little long so make sure you have enough room to putter around with the cables. :)
