Short for External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment eSATA is an extension to the Serial ATA standard that enables SATA drives to be attached externally. Prior to eSATA, external hard drives were connected via USB 2.0 or FireWire. While eSATA can provide faster transfer rates than USB or FireWire, it requires its own power connector.

I have a 1TB model from years ago I was thinking of using eSATA with my old laptop to host a cloud server. Thought of picking up a second for RAID. How is the life on the 4TB model? Still in full order?

I have two 4TB's still working fine. Need to upgrade to 8TB as we've run out of space. Destination360

Does this product work with the directv genie?

Did not work with Verizon DVR even though both are eSata.
