Can one of these be used with one of my HP ENVY dv7t-7200 stock 4GB to give it 12GB (1x4GB + 1x8GB) instead of just 8GB (2x4GB)?

I check compatibility for my system on another site, and these came up in search results. I searched on this site and found these as well as a lot more, but this one was the cheapest and had the best rating.

Yes, you should be fine based on the specs on HP's site.
Keep in mind one thing, you may lose the "dual channel" aspect of the memory with two different sized/spec'd modules, but unless you use it for heavy gaming you probably won't notice the difference. You cannot go wrong with G.SKILL products - it's the only RAM I use.

(Also, my two cents - the difference in performance when you go above 8GB RAM is negligible - again unless you're doing real heavy-duty work - so consider that before spending the money)

Apple claims that only specific components are to be used in their laptops. With that said, as long as it is the same type and speed as what is in it currently, you should be OK.

I want to upgrade the ram on my laptop; i have an acer aspire E5-522-89W6, will this memory work for me?

You presumed that the respondent knows the specs of your laptop.  I had to spend the time to look them up In order to give you the correct answer.  There are different specs depending on the part number but in general, more than 4 GB can only be supported by a 64-bit OS.  So, if your OS is W10 64-bit, then you can upgrade to 8 GB or more.  I've had no issues with G.Skill and used the 8 GB in an Acer and in an HP laptop without problems for over 2 years.  I hope this answers your question.  Dr. Hugues LaRivière, P.Eng. Yes. Your computer takes DDR3L memory (which this is), in either 4GB or 8GB modules. I assume you have 4GB now? So if you get this, you'll just take out the existing module and add this one in.  I have this memory in my laptop and have had no issues in the 1.5 yr of ownership.

PC3-14900 is DDR3-1866 which is faster than PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 I would use DDR3-1866 if it truly is compatible.
