Are 1440p 144Hz monitors worth it for competitive FPS?

I’m debating an upgrade from my 1080p 144Hz monitor to a 1440p 144Hz panel. I mostly play competitive shooters but also do some open-world RPGs. I’m wondering if the extra resolution will noticeably impact FPS or input lag, and if it’s worth the cost for both gaming types.

Has anyone here switched to 1440p 144Hz from 1080p 144Hz? What differences did you actually notice in gameplay and responsiveness?

I recently upgraded to a 1440p monitor and it was a huge difference and it’s not even a top of the line it’s just a middle of the road monitor. I will say that my 1080p was only 60 Hz. I only play single player games but the picture was significantly crisper.
