Arrow Lake refresh. How big we talkin? Like the RTX 5070 vs the RTX 5070 Super?

I am confused, this is an article mentioning CPUs but you mention GPUs in your title?

I just hope the intel CPUs don’t die off, I don’t want a CPU monopoly (but what do I know, I am not an economist, maybe AMD has good hearts and will make better products if intel hits the bucket).

:joy::joy: Good hearts (and I am a AMD fan). We need more competition on all fronts, CPU’s and GPU’s the most. Stong competition means lower prices for us. Dont worry Intel is not going anywhere. They are at a low point right now when it comes to gaming pc’s but far from out. Think about all the Intel PC’s in the big box stores that sell them. I’m thinking they have the bulk of gov’t contracts too. probably why they were kinda bailed out last month.

I think he’s asking for how big the refresh is. I think the “Super” tag mean a refresh right?

Historically speaking, Intel refreshes of an existing architecture are very minor. Some prior examples include:

  • Haswell refresh (The move from 4670K and 4770K, to 4690K and 4790K)
  • Intel’s entire 7th generation
  • Intel’s entire 9th generation
  • Intel’s entire 14th generation

Given how many times Intel has done this, we can say with some confidence there will be only minor uplift. The largest percentage clock speed increase we’ve seen from any of these refreshes was from 3.5GHz to 4.0GHz on Haswell refresh.

We also don’t think anyone will purchase these refreshed CPUs as an upgrade to existing LGA 1851 setups, given Intel’s plan to launch Nova Lake with the brand new LGA 1954 socket in late 2026.
