The read and write speeds are important, but you’re right - there are other important measurements. In order of importance:
- Capacity - you want to make sure there’s enough space. Keeping an SSD most of the way full all the time will cause it to fail prematurely, as this causes a large number of write cycles to just a small area at the end of the drive, and write cycles kill SSDs.
- IOPS, or I/O per second, which correlates to overall drive performance
- Warranty length, depending upon the manufacturer
- Whether or not the drive includes an integrated cooler. It’s always recommended to have cooling on any drive with PCIe4.0 or faster speeds, and if your motherboard doesn’t have an integrated cooling plate (or you’re installing into a PS5) then a built-in heatsink should be used.
