Overall Review: Unfortunately, Hitachi has resurrected the Deathstar lack of longevity from when these drives were marketed by IBM. Buy another brand.

Pros: Seemed not bad for 32 days.

Cons: Seemed pretty good to start but right around 32 days it started showing problems. Bios is now reporting it's not passing SMART. It then disappears completely. Running some SMART self tests but this thing is going back as it's no longer recognized. I go here http://www.hgst.com/portal/site/en/support/warranty/ and rry and download the drive fitness test - http://www.hgst.com/support/downloads/#DFT and I get just a blank page. Ok so I decide to contact technical support to let them know. http://www.hgst.com/support/contact-support/ Guess what, blank page (on 3 browsers 2 computers). It's been like this for about an hour (6-29-12 9:36am Pacific). So I have no way to get my drive returned and I am passed the 30 days to return to newegg. One saving grace is you can go through the RMA without needed any sort of code from the drive fitness software. So I will do just that.

Overall Review: I would have gave them 2 or heck maybe 3 stars because drives do break but there website not having the tools they require you to run is just bad. I finally got the site to do more than just show a blank page: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL

Pros: This is the fifth one Ive bought this year,and all work fine with little or no noise and acceptably fast response times. The newest C (Jupiter) series is quiter and faster still.Nice!

Cons: Could have been packed a bit better,as an OEM,thats essential to getting a trouble free drive.Newegg usually does better,Im pretty surprised in the shipping on the last 3,thinly padded and moving around alot in the box.Not a drive problem,so no eggs taken off,just a surpise as newegg used to do better.

Overall Review: Cant stand folks who expect a SATA cable shipped with this,ITS AN OEM,NOTHING BUT THE DRIVE COMES TO YOU,PERIOD!Folks,if you want a cable,buy the RETAIL version and dont complain(and reduce your rating)if you cant figure this out,ok? OK!

Pros: These start off working very well. RMA process is quite good. We'll see how the replacements behave over time.

Cons: I've had two of these start off working well, then develop sector errors. The first took about 6 months, the second about a year, and caused the whole PC to hang.

Overall Review: I'm not so keen to purchase again.

Pros: I purchased 3 of these drives over the course of a few months (whenever I would see them on sale at 49.99 or 59.99), and I have been using them for over a year now without a single hiccup. I use them for media storage and not as my main drive, so I can't comment on startup speeds, but I do store my Steam games on one of them since my SSD is too small, and the load times are very fast compared to my old SATA II RAID 0 setup. Transfer speeds are very fast as well. I haven't bench marked them, but they are noticeably faster than the old RAID 0 setup mentioned earlier.

Cons: The only cons are the fact that the drives are so expensive now. However, that is not exclusive to these drives. I will purchase more of these once hard drive prices fall back to what they were a year ago. However, I should complain, because I remember paying 210 dollars for a 40GB HDD back in 2001.

Overall Review: This is a fantastic drive. I had never purchased a Hitachi drive before, but so far, with my experience (I now own 6 Hitachi drives in total) says these are less likely to fail than the Western Digital drives I've owned in the past. Since Western Digital now owns the Hitachi HDD rights, I hope that that doesn't change.

Overall Review: 2 out of 4 drives purchased failed in 1 years time. Warranty determined by Hitachi is their build date, not date you purchased it, so you will get less than 3 years warranty time. Stay away from Hitachi.

Pros: Great price, Great size, Not DOA, quiet, good read/write speeds.

Cons: Not as fast as some of my other 7200 rpm drives. Not a big difference and not enough to knock off an egg, but it is noticeable.

Overall Review: After reading other reviews I was a bit leery of buying this drive but decided to go ahead based on my experience with Hitachi laptop drives and the fact that the price was too good to pass up. However, just to be safe I plugged it into my testing dock to make sure it worked and to format prior to opening up my WHS storage array and installing it. It passed all tests so now it is in the storage array and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Will update if something negative happens in the future.
