HIS 7970 X, not only the HIS top class but also the best of the best among 7970 cards, achieves the number 1 world records in 4-way crossfire with 84669 on 3DMark Vantage and 29937 on 3Dmark 11, and won the ASRock Z77 Overclocking Competition on 3D mark.com.
The HIS 7970 X is based on the state-of-the-art 7970 GHz Edition chip with 1 GHz core and 6.0 Gbps memory clock, and features high quality components for full OC potential. With special features seldom seen on competitor's products, such as X elements, IceQ X², iTurbo, PowerTune with Boost and OC equipment, the HIS 7970 X raises the bar high with revolutionary improvement on cooling performance, power consumption and ease of operation. The special metal RIB on the card further strengthens the card significantly!
GCN ArchitectureWith AMD GCN technology, the card optimizes DirectX 11.1 gaming performance automatically up to 2.5 times faster! It also offers up to 4.5x compute performance and up to 95% lower GPU Idle Power Consumption!
X ElementsThe card carries the special X elements, including the extra 18+1+1 PWM phrases, LED indicators, outputs that support both Eyefinity 5 & Eyefinity 6, making HIS 7970 X one of the most luxurious cards in the market! The extra PWM phase for core voltage provides extra power stability, lower temperature for power components! A single color LED Indicator for overheat warning will turn on when the card’s temperature is abnormal, avoiding Critical Temperature Failure! 3-color GPU Voltage LED Indicator makes it convenient for you to adjust the voltage for overclocking! 5-color fan speed indicator gives a quick view of different fan speed. HIS 7970 X supports up to 6 monitors and is EyeFinity 3 ready as well! The card comes with the Mini DisplayPort to Single Link-DVI EyeFinity Adapter for your convenience.
IceQ X² – Cooler, QuieterIceQ X² is one of the quietest coolers. The card is below 28dB when watching movies, surfing Facebook, working. The card remains quiet whether you are gaming, online socializing, entertaining or working. A host of quality parts and sophisticated design ensure maximum cooling performance, with ignorable noise. The extra large 40x47.5mm copper heatsink provides a large area to dissipate heat efficiently, 3x 6mm and 2x 8mm wide heatpipes optimize cooling performance by removing heat from the core area. The super large 2x 8.9 cm dual axial fans draws massive amount of cool air to cool the GPU directly, and special fan blade design provides a wide cover to cool opponents in the shortest time! The card also carries memory and mosfet heat sinks to provide extra heat dissipation from these areas.
iTurbo – Your Graphics Card’s AssistantiTurbo's Fan Control and Fan Monitoring allow easy adjustment of your card to its maximum cooling performance or to run your card quietly! With the smart auto overclocking function, users can experience a slight performance boost for selected HIS graphic cards with just one click! Either you wish to unleash its full potential or to make it more environmental friendly, iTurbo is ready for you!
OC EquipmentThe card is equipped with improved power design which is great for OC! HIS cards utilize Dynamic Phase Control PWM IC to save power for better use. Along with improved power design, GPU Voltage Indicator, digital power design, 2 ounces Copper Layer, HIS cards make the best out of power, carrying better OC capability and pushing clock speeds to the full potential! The card has 5 difference voltage pads for user to monitor the voltage by using multimeter (monitor VDDC, MVDD, VDDVI, 3.3V & 12V)!
Safer, Last LongerHIS cards are engineered with the highest standard of safety, preventing them from any potential damages. Solid State Choke stabilizes the card and Full Solid State Capacitors ensures the best power quality and enhances the card’s stability in critical gaming situations! PCB might easily warp due to prolonged hanging on motherboard & casing, potentially causing cracks on BGA solder joints and resulting in malfunctioning of the card. The HIS special metal rib provides extra strength to the PCBs to avoid warpage, making the cards extra stable and durable. You can count on HIS cards to game hard for 24/7/365 for years! The card also uses the deluxe Silver (IMS) PCB, making it far more durable and reliable for your every need!

7970 X - The Best of the Best! - X: More Voltage, More Overclocking - X: Show and Tell - X: Eyefinity 6 , Eyefinity 5 + Eyefinity 3
Pros: Can drive up to 6 monitors in or not in Eyefinity mode, and only takes up two back panel slots. Has two fans and a monster heatsink to draw heat away from the GPU.
Cons: None. But please read my comments in "other thoughts", because this card may not be for everybody.
Overall Review: Price. It's too expensive even for six monitors and most people can put two graphic cards in and drive 8 monitors for half this cost. But I needed to support six monitors and I wanted to do it without taking up more than two slots and without the heat generation of a second card, so this is not a con.
Size. It's a big, long card and can block airflow in an ordinary case, effectively cutting off the lower half of the case interior from the upper half, possibly making the upper half (where the CPU is) warmer and less able to shunt heat away from the CPU. Be sure you have a huge case with good air circulation. The Cooler Master full tower HAF series and other similarly large cases should work well.
Weight. This is a very heavy card. You could break a toe if you drop it on your foot, so don't be a butterfingers and wear shoes anyway when you're installing it! It comes with a somewhat adjustable plastic footstand (called a "weightlifter") that will stand on the PSU and keep the card from sagging and warping your motherboard and the card's socket. You must remember to put the weightlifter in whenever the case is standing vertically, which is pretty much all the time.
Heat. The inside of my case doesn't get hot, but when I'm running a game, this card (combined with the CPU) will warm up the room I'm in. I expected this too; after all, the heatsink is rather huge. Heat is negligible when doing office-type tasks.
Eyefinity. You need monitors with the same resolution before you can run games or other apps in Eyefinity mode. Word to the wise.
I knew all of this before I bought the card, and that's why I don't consider these to be "cons". Furthermore, I would do it all over again, because it allowed me to achieve my needs (one card, double width, not triple). I have not had any trouble with the card.
Plays my older games very well with all settings on max, but I mostly use it for office and creative software. I have not yet used Eyefinity.
Pros: See comments under the "other" section.
Please note this review is based on my experience with the card and not a technical review!
Cons: NONE so far!
Overall Review: Ok so I am a computer noob! I bought this card after reading several reviews on other sites. The card benchmarks higher than many other near sized cards. So far after a brand new build I could not be happier with it. The card has handled every game I have thrown at it plus some light graphics editing. If you are looking for a technical review don't look here. I can tell you that with a decent sized case my computer does not get over 68 degrees at full run. I have the tower sitting 3 feet away and I don't have one complaint about noise. I do plan on experimenting with the eyefinity in the next few months but for now two monitors are plenty fast for me!
