Question 1

I'm confused, someone said in an answer that it only puts out Digital TV conversion in composite or coax.  I assumed it would output in HDMI to my analog HDMI LED 23" Flat screen TV.  Does it?

It does have an HDMI output and HDMI connection instructions. I have not used the HDMI connection, just the RG6 COAX cable connection to a VCR to an analog TV. One very annoying thing I have noticed is that there is a frequent "popping" sound during a programmed recording that doesn't happen when recording by manually selecting the channel.

Do I still need an antenna with this converter to watch digital tv channels?

Yes, a good antenna will be needed. This HDTV Digital Converter box by HomeWorX does all it is advertised for me, I live in a town with poor reception so I chose the best indoor antenna I could on a tight budget and depending on the time of day I get anywhere from 3 to 13 channels. The converter does its job well for me, it does come down to better antenna better reception. Do the research on reception for your area.

Will this device play video files from a usb drive? If so what formats does it support? Thanks!

I have no TV reception so I use mine exclusively for video and run it 8-14 hours a day. I have used 8-32GB USB drives but usually just plug the 2T WD external hard drives in and it works fine.

I have no problem 99% of the time with mkv, avi, mp4, or flv. One of these will sometimes come up with an "unsupported file" notice but I haven't figured out why.

I haven't played with the music or jpg functions very often but it plays entire albums in mp3 with no problems.

Hope this helps, I love my enough I plan to buy another for the other TV.

Can I connect coax cable from Comcast TV as input and connect HDMI cable (as output) to my TV?

Yes if they haven't scrambled the signal. If they are requiring a "digital adapter" then this can not take the place of the "digital adapter". This device will not unscramble the new digital encryption that many providers are using. Big brother is now watching what you watch...

Does it work on Verizon tv Subscription?

Not sure, although tried on Comcast TV subscription. It auto-detects all the channels but can't display them as it says "scrambled channel" on screen. 
So ultimately this is for open channels.

Just a quick question my coax input on my tv broke for cable, we do have cable tv. Would this work to convert it to rca input for tv?

No. Digital cable uses different encoding schemes than DTTV. If you are talking about cable TV that is still being transmitted in analog, then again, no, this box takes DTV signals and coverts them to composite video or a select-able ch 2 or 3 for the old NTSC format. In the analog case you would need an NTSC tuner such as AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid TVBOX 11 A200 DVI Interface.

So, I'm considering one of these to hook up into my receiver then have the receiver output to the TV, I want to do this so that I can get 5.1 or 7.1 audio from a live broadcast. Does anyone know if this is possible from this unit?

Yes, it will do this. That is exactly why I bought this unit. Over the air audio also sounds much better that thru the cable.

I have cable and want to use it with my xbox one. will it work with my xbox one to watch tv thru my console then just thru my tv.
