May The Fourth

Well it’s that time again. May the fourth is upon us.
We are all excited for the Star Wars movies and games that we will surely see in the near future.

Star wars has been a part of my life since I was a young padawan.(before that word even existed) My favorite toy was my millennium falcon, filled with action figures, it made an annoying engine sound as I would fly it around the living room. It was a lot of fun. While there were many types of action figures no child was cool without their trusty lightsaber lighting up the night sky.

By my teens my interests headed to games. I eventually picked up X-wing which gave me a reason to build my own PC, which ultimately lead me to start my career. I collected Star Wars action figures again as they were re-released and as we heard of new movies coming out.

The most recent movies couldn’t hold a candle to the originals. I continued to play Star Wars games all the way to Republic Commando. And now I’m starting to feel that excitement again with this new teaser trailer. But I have to hold my excitement back. I’ve already been down this path with the most recent movies, still feeling the burn after several years.

Will this be the first in a new series of Star Wars movies to give us what we always hoped for? Will this reignite the childhood joy so many of us experienced? It’s hard to tell from what we’ve seen so far. I know J.J. Abram did a pretty good job with Star Trek, but could have done things better with the history and some of my favorite parts of the movies. Let’s hope he’s a bigger Star Wars fan and that we finally get the movies we have been waiting for all these years so that I can share the joys of the Star Wars universe with my child this time around.
