It has been three years since Windows 7 was released. Windows 7 was such a success that when Windows 8 was announced, many people wondered what changes Microsoft would bring to the table. When October 26 launch date comes around, you’ll find that Windows 8 is a totally and completely brand-new experience unlike any previous Windows OS.
The launch will include an all-new suite for users, upgrade possibilities for current users of the old operating system and a flashy, united interface that runs on both desktop PCs and mobile devices.
As the release date approaches, reviews on Windows 8 have started to roll in. So far, it seems that many people are interested – if not fully ready to accept the changes immediately. The tiled screen is geared toward mobile devices, such as tablets and smartphones, and is easily navigable through touch. Each tile represents a different application and is reminiscent of the screen you may see on a Windows phone. In fact, those who have used a Windows phone before will find the OS very familiar.
The traditional desktop, which is accessible from the tiled start screen, shows that Windows is conscious of its customers. Users now have to learn how to adapt to a new system and work on an OS that is unlike anything they have used before from Microsoft. The learning curve may be a bit high so although there is interest in Windows 8, it could lead most people to adopt a “wait and see” attitude toward the new OS.
This is a big change for Microsoft as it starts to focus on making a wholly integrated system, with Windows 8 easily connecting to Outlook and Skydrive, two of the company’s most important services. By making bold changes, the company is actively working to focus the direction of its technology toward the future by taking into account mobile and touch-screen based devices, instead of just the traditional desktop PC.
