750

Intel is leading the transition from SATA* to PCIe* with the Intel® SSD 750 Series targeted at PC Enthusiasts and Workstation users. PCIe represents the future of the computing storage interface offering vast improvements in raw throughput performance and latency reduction.

This means:

  • Immersive experience for entertainment like gaming
  • Increased efficiency for engineering workloads
  • Design and build richer content with larger data sets, textures, and assets
  • Experience Ultra HD video creation and high-resolution imaging
  • Overcome barriers to take us places we could never go before

Intel Storage Leadership

750

Delivering a product with no compromises means no shortcuts. Rather than taking the easy path and accept the burden of an AHCI* interface with commands that were designed with spinning media in mind. Intel chose the high performance solution, NVMe*. Intel has broken down the barriers to bring NVMe storage to the client by enabling the ecosystem for a bootable, easy to use, plug-&-play solution. This means SSDs and platforms that just work together, products you can trust.

750

Uncompromised Performance

Delivering the full performance potential offered with four lanes of PCIe 3.0 today requires real horsepower without compromise on form factor. This means delivering a product with the thermal dissipation capabilities that allow the controller and the media to really stretch their legs, as well as providing the required space for the storage media to accommodate large capacities. The Intel® SSD 750 Series makes no compromises. It simply delivers raw storage performance and capacity for customers that only accept the best!

solid and fast

Pros: a must with any board that can support it, it works awesomely as my primary drive coupled with my Rampage V Extreme Edition 10

Cons: non optical data transfer cables

Overall Review: Maybe it's time for intel to "hurt" it's bottom line and move towards internal optical data transfer components and drag the rest of this lazy storage industry after them.

It's sickening how some companies have such a good handle on quality. Of course not all intel products are so well done, but this one is definitely one of them.

Expensive, but blows SATA SSDs speeds away.

Pros: - over 4x read / 2x write faster than high-end SATA III SSDs
- good quality U.2 cable provided
- the grooved bottom looks good and effectively disperses heat

Cons: - Very expensive for the amount of storage you get compared to other SSDs.

Overall Review: - Great pick if you don't mind the cost have M.2 available or want to keep your motherboard clear of warm components.
- Still requires you to attach a SATA power cable. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of if you haven't had a U.2 drive before.

Best NVMe Drive on the Market

Pros: -Intel Reliability
-Great Software
-2.5" varient is a good choice LGA1151 CPU boards lacking x4 slot or proper lane configurations on x16 slot
-2.5" variant is a good choice for SLI/CFX configurations
-Excellent built quality
-Derived from enterprise drives.
-Stays Cool
-Does Not Throttle
-High IOPS
-Good read speeds

Cons: -U.2 interface (most motherboards lack native support unless you use an M.2/U.2 adapter)
-U.2 to M.2 converters can be cumbersome and unattractive
-Cannot fit in laptops (too thick and laptops lack interface for this drive)
-Thicker than standard SSDs which may limit placement in certain cases with motherboard tray SSD mountings
-Expensive
-Mediocre write speeds

Overall Review: I purchased this drive about a year ago and I absolutely love it. Originally was going to go with a Samsung 950 Pro but scratched the idea due to overheating/throttling issues. Plus by brother receiving a defective one and the one in my dad's computer burning out after a month didn't help its cause. I jumped up to the RoG Maximus VIII board for the native U.2 port to accommodate this drive (although this drive will work fine going through an M.2 converter at the cost of some performance and aesthetics). The 2.5" variant is a nice choice for LGA1151 CPU boards. My motherboard would not have been able to accommodate the AIC version due to lack of a x4 slot and proper lane configurations on the x16 slots. I have owned Intel SSDs before and found them to be very reliable. They may not always be the fastest but they have always been fast enough. The software that comes with this drive is top notch and it actually ships with a CD containing the NVMe drivers for Windows 7. The build quality is excellent with a nice beefy heat sink integrated into the case to keep the controller and memory chips cool. It was pretty expensive when compared to the Samsung drive (at the time of purchase) but the design allows the drive to stay cool which eliminates throttling while increasing reliability. On my board the Samsung would be sitting under my second GTX 1080 which probably would not helped the overheating/throttling issues. Definitely would recommend this drive for someone were reliability and solid performance is a high priority.

Disappointing performance as Boot/Applications drive

Pros: Fast, but not M.2 Fast
My numbers according to Blackmagic Disk Speed Test
Intel 750 400GB U.2
938.6 Write/ 1844.3 Read
Samsung 950 512GB M.2
1456.5 Write/2089.2 Read

These drives are fast but due to other factors are not all that impressive as a boot drive or system app launch times. Hard numbers from my testing below

Cons: Test system:
Intel 6950x @ 4.250 GHZ
128GB Corsiar Vengeance RAM @ 3000
GTX 1080 Founders Edition
Samsung 950 M.2
Internal 24TB RAID 0 comprised of six 4TB HGST 7200 RPM Hard Disks on motherboard SATA ports, striped with Intel UEFI RAID tools.
SATA Boot SSD: 3 year old Samsung 840 series 250GB

You will note long boot times in the tests below. This has to do with the number of devices and RAID connected to the system. It boots faster when configured lean and mean, but the SATA SSD vs. U.2 drive comparisons reflect similar performance margins.

First time: Samsung 840 250GB SATA SSD
Second time: Intel 750 400GB U.2

Overall Review: If you were looking to boot and launch your applications substantially faster than an ordinary SATA SSD, you will be disappointed in this drive as that use case does not properly leverage it's performance advantage over standard SATA SSDs. If you have a different use case that can take better advantage of the performance of this drive, then you may be able to justify the high cost per GB.

Wow!

Pros: Seq reads at 2.3GB and writes 1GB! it booted right away using a maximus VIII impact! no settings needed to do anything, installed windows 10 off a drive, installed intel drivers and firmware and results as fast as a bullet!

Cons: None

Overall Review: many people might like the M.2 design but i think the U.2 connector is better as these M.2 SSD's can transfer unnecessary heat to the motherboard, especially if you have a mATX like the Maximus VIII impact. plus this SSD has a nice heat sink! beefy, SSD temps never exceeded 28c monitoring using HWinfo, plus intel has the most reliable drives and i never had a failed intel drive yet!

As Linus said "WE DO IT FOR THE SPEED!".

Pros: -Design
-Form Factor
-and obviously the SPEED

Cons: -A little tricky to setup as a boot drive (but it is possible, just make sure your motherboard supports it and you have the latest drivers during the O.S. installation).

Overall Review: It is reasonable that the pricing is at where it's at (this is a trend among technology, the newer the technology, the higher the price.I would only get this drive if you honestly absolutely need the speed or just have the cash to afford this with out really missing out on anything else.I recommend getting a 400GB version of this and a Hard Drive for mass storage as the NVME SSD will be great for your programs and boot times- which will unlikely exceed the 400GB (372GB of usable) memory while all your files (like photos, videos, etc.) would be on the hard drive.

Intel 750 400GB SSD

Pros: Build quality is very high, Excellent benchmark results.

Cons: Using this product as a boot drive in Windows 10 proved to be unsatisfactory, at least with the Gigabyte Gaming G1 board. Updated to the latest Firmware & Bios for both products. Not sure if the SSD or the motherboard bios is the problem. From a cold boot, the Bios instructed to insert a bootable disc and re-boot. In other words it couldn't find the SSD. Once you pressed Ctrl-Alt-Delete, it booted up fine. When you re-boot the system, many times it just hangs up until you press reset.
Have now removed the SSD and installed the Plextor M.2 for the boot drive and everything works fine. The Intel 750 is now an extra drive and works fine as well.
